4.0 out of 5 stars An introspective masterpiece from an underrated producer, October 11, 2000

Anyone who grew up in the halcyon days of the early 90s club or rave scenes has heard and enjoyed Laurent Garnier, whether they knew it or not. His influence has been pervasive -- from the gentle, propulsive acid trance of Alaska's "Lost In Alaska" or Garnier's classic "Go To Sleep" to the more uptempo club sounds of "Acid Eiffel" or "Crispy Bacon", Garnier has written club tracks that work as well through headphones as they do on the dancefloor.

Unreasonable Behaviour continues the tradition by melding a late-night Detroit techno sensibility with the sophisticated grooves of French house. From the squelchy darkness of "Forgotten Thoughts" to the epic jazz of "The Man With The Red Face", Garnier shows his kinship with fellow French producers (St Germain, Cassius) without ever losing his own vision. This album is all the more remarkable when you consider how diverse (not to say scatterbrained) his previous albums have been. This is a beautiful and thoughtful album, and deserves a wide hearing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tour de force!, January 30, 2004

Unlike the crepe i ordered on the streets of Paris that was unceremoniously smeared with Nutella, this Garnier effort is thankfully undiluted by external influences. "Man With The Red Face" is a badass progressive treat, wonderfully complimented by some freestyle jazz brass. He employs a 'less-is-more', almost minimal techno attitude on most tracks, with varying degrees of success. Either way, this disc is a treat for the senses, and improves with each listen.

For Garnier fans, I highly recommend the 2 hour BBC essential mix set circulating on the likes of Kazaa as well. Both are glowing contributions by one of the industry's finest.

4.0 out of 5 stars positively good stuff, April 7, 2000

The french (ouurah!) techno master comes back with a good techno album. I think that you can buy it without danger, being myself only an occasional technolistener. Very good tracks which sometimes reminds me of carl graig music "more songs..." and some real buster title like Sound of the Big Babou and the strange jazzy Man with the red face. It's really the kind of techno you should be looking
