Book Description

Mason has a past. Having fled his home he now lives out a lonely, isolated existence, doing his best to remain invisible, while watching the world pass him by with an increasingly cynical detachment. At least until a remarkable young woman captivates his attention.

Shayla has a future. With a career, good friends and a fiancé she adores, she loves her life and really wants for nothing. But for some time now something has been watching her, drawn to something about her that makes her unique.

When Mason’s world violently collides with Shayla’s, his past threatens to destroy her future. To set things right Mason must come to terms with and atone for what he had done while Shayla must find an inner strength she never knew existed within her. And the only thing either of them can rely on is each other.

About the Author

Jay Merin has had a life-long love affair with fiction. He loves when a story can take him somewhere, make him feel, and he especially loves those moments when reading a book or watching a movie where something so amazing, so well-crafted, so moving happens that he has to stop and just bask in how great experiencing that moment was. Jay wants to share that moment, to give that moment to others. He wants his stories to hook readers, draw them into fascinating worlds and make them never want to leave. For a very long time he has written various different kinds of stories for a myriad of mediums. But Unrequited is the first novel length work he has finished. It is a labor of love and he dedicates it to his family who supported him so much in making sure that it got finished. In the end, if Jay can give one person out there one of those moments with his work he will consider himself a success. The more people who experience those moments the better, of course.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing April 6, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Due to the glowing reviews, I downloaded this book for free on my kindle. I was expecting action, romance, and a plot. It was a gentle letdown. The novel had little to no romance, constant thrashing action, a swirling, inconsistent plotline, and many grammatical errors. Unless you are very into fantasy and lengthy paragraphs that describe little to nothing, I recommend that you look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Two great characters join forces for an epic adventure November 12, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
The opening of this story reminded me a little of the crossing of paths used in Eagle Eye. Mason and Shayla are great characters and I really enjoyed the massive differences in them. Mason is off the grid and keeping out of everybody's way. The two combined create a winning combination that keep you turning the pages. Well written and what a great story. I hope more follow...and soon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinary story October 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This story begins with the feeling of lyrical sadness in the descriptions of Mason and his exile from his exotic home. It is a startling story, well written, and providing excellent imagery. One of my favourites being, "Discarded ideas manifested here physically as random rubbish...crumpled paper, broken pieces of wood, bent metal bits......". From the echoing loneliness and need of the character Mason, to the explosive ending, this book is completely addictive. I could hardly stop reading once I had started. The story is high-end urban fantasy a mix of observations of humans and the frailty of gods. The hero and heroine are totally engaging. There is action and philosophy, monstrous creatures, plotting and reflection in this extraordinary story. The author was really brave with their ending, when you read it I think you will know what I mean. I would love another book about Mason and his injured world. I loved `Unrequited', and recommend it highly. This has to be a five star book, if I could give it more I would.
