4.0 out of 5 stars Mark Free - do I have to say more? January 20, 2005
Format:Audio CD
This is one hell of a AOR/Melodic rock album!

Opening track "On the rise" defines good quality rock! Mark Frees soaring vocals sets the tone for the record and this is an awesome airguitar song with fat keyboards in it!

"When love is gone" is a ballad that makes you cry everytime you hear it. I could go on like this forever but the bottom line is:

If you like good songs performed in a good way with the greatest singer in AOR known to man, then this is a must buy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Stuart June 7, 2005

Mark Free's Masterpiece cd. Hands down this & his other band Signal are his best cd's. There are no fillers on this album. Just awesome AOR/Melodic Metal. Son highlights include: Is It Over, When Love Is Gone & Criminal. This cd is getting harder & harder to find so get it while its available.

5.0 out of 5 stars AOR Essential August 27, 2011
Format:Audio CD
Unruly Child was the melodic rock band put together by former King Kobra vocalist Mark Free after his Signal project failed to catch on (which is still a huge shame considering how amazing their Loud & Clear album is). Unruly Child also featured guitarist Bruce Gowdy (ex-Stone Fury) and Hurricane drummer Jay Schellen, among others. The band released their self-titled debut in 1992, and like just about every other Mark Free album, it's a classic.

Think of the "hair metal" bands that were hugely popular as late as 1992 - Steelheart, Firehouse, Slaughter, etc. As good as they are, Unruly Child should have left them all in the dust. They had tight musicianship, excellent songwriting and production, one of the absolute best vocalists in the genre, and a sound that was right in line with the kind of polished, arena-rocking stuff Bon Jovi was releasing at the time. The melodies on this album are gorgeous, the hooks are killer if a bit subtle, and Free just soars all over these songs. There's a great mix of upbeat rockers and more laid back love songs, all of which are fantastic.

Well, we all know how 1992 turned out for melodic rock and hair metal. Not only did grunge sweep in, but the band's label Interscope decided to become a full-on rap label, leaving Unruly Child out in the cold. The band had a couple of decent releases without Free, who took time to do some solo work and, um, become a woman. Unruly Child, now with one Marcie Free at the helm, returned in 2011 with Worlds Collide, the first proper follow-up to this album.

3.0 out of 5 stars 90s hard rock.love it. February 25, 2014

I love the band. Great music. I would have given a full 5 stars but, the CD came a scratched up. Only first track plays without a skip. Lucky for me, I can fix it.
