3.0 out of 5 stars It won't disappoint their fans
I haven't heard Florida-based goth rockers DeadStar Assembly's earlier work, so I have no reference points to compare it with their new disc Unsaved. The music on this platter contains a total of fifteen tracks clocking in at over 50 minutes, and teetering the thin line between gothic pop and industrial rock.

The album starts with the two-part title track...

I was one excitedly looking forward to the release of this album. It was definately worth the wait.

The recording quality alone surpasses that of their debut album, and Dearborn's vocals have definately improved a bit. Songs like Dejected, Naive, and Killing Myself Again really stick out. They are catchy, and in your face. And Ashes Will Fall is a great "ballad" so to speak, and is a great shift in the album's direction. Also on the "ballad" side, Bled is amazing, and possibly my favorite song on the album.

The guitars sound less crunchy than the first release, which bothered me at first, but i got used to it really quickly. Most of the drums sound real this time instead of all electronic. However, one thing that kinda upset me about the album is the synths. Do i love the synths? Yes, I do. Trust me, they are all awesome sounding. However, i'm rather dissapointed in that they sound like generic synths. On their debut release a lot of the synths sounded very original and unique sounding.

One other thing about this album is it gets a bit tiresome at the end. I tend to get bored after Bled. I mean there are a bunch of great tracks on here, maybe three that i find mediocre (the instrumental interludes seemed kind of pointless). And i'm sorry, but i cannot stand the song Insurrection at all.

Other than that, this album is a great leap forward for the band. So like i said, it is full of amazing tracks and worth the buy. For fans of Manson, Orgy, Nine Inch Nails, Crossbreed, Spineshank, pick this one up. And go see them live! They put on a good show too.

3.0 out of 5 stars It won't disappoint their fans, October 25, 2006
This review is from: Unsaved (Audio CD)
I haven't heard Florida-based goth rockers DeadStar Assembly's earlier work, so I have no reference points to compare it with their new disc Unsaved. The music on this platter contains a total of fifteen tracks clocking in at over 50 minutes, and teetering the thin line between gothic pop and industrial rock.

The album starts with the two-part title track "Unsaved"; the first one immediately stands out for its thick sound, bringing forth pulsating drum beats and building up to a nice crescendo before it segues into the comparatively heavier second part. The rhythm guitars on the album are used sparingly, as much of the atmosphere is conveyed through multi-track keyboard melodies and synth patches. The song does delve into a full-on goth rock style in its final section, following the doubled vocals of Dearborn. Simmering 80's synths characterize the industrial-tinged "Killing Myself Again", blending catchy alternative rock choruses and little touches of electronica. "Dejected" is a more modern piece with lots of turntable scratching and a playful rhythmic bottom; whilst the deeply electronic and textured "Naive" and the ballady "And Ashes Will Fall" are among the more moving and thought-out numbers. The use of acoustic guitars on the latter lends it a different sonic quality. The blend of dissonant sounds of "Showing Teeth" and the oft-repeated chorus of "Darker Now", with some cool guitar harmony development in the back, also contribute to the overall flow of Unsaved.

That said, DeadStar Assembly's songwriting is nothing overtly original or unheard of. Their strength lies moreso in crafting solid goth-flavoured song that have both powerful crunch and big, boomy rhythmic aweareness. The production is amazing and should appeal to fans of this kind of music greatly.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS BAND IS GOLD!, January 16, 2007

Trust me, whoever is buying this you won't regret it! these guys have worked hard for it. I found out about them when my boyfriend impersonated them so I went out and found out about Deadstar Assembly, since then I have been hooked on them from day one. TRUST me, you will love them!. some of their songs like "Send me an angel" & "Dejected" & "Ashes to ashes will fall" are some really good songs. Did you know that the orignal band that made the song "Send me an angel" told the band of Deadstar Assembly, that they loved the new verison that the lead singer Dearborn made of it?

In the end this band is really good if your looking for your average punkish hardcore death metal rock band. I guarantee their your next nine inch nails or marilyn manson.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Semi-Industrial Goth Rock Album, February 5, 2010
By
This review is from: Unsaved (Audio CD)
This is your typical moody, semi-industrial goth rock album. The band definitely takes their influence from he more popular Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, Ministry and Frontline Assembly. The four-piece from Florida is painted up with Black eyeliner, makeup and the typical dyed hair of black to hot pink.

"And Ashes Will Fall" is on e of the best songs on the album and a prime example of the band's dramatic pop sensibilities. Some of the other songs bleed with a dark, sexiness that could inspire you to get freaky with a lustful on of the opposite sex (or the same sex for that matter). Overall "Deathstar Assembly" is good, but perhaps just a bit too contrived for me.

A little different to the heavy stuff I listen to, but this is a good cd anyways. Got some cool techno vibes thrown in with some dark lyrics. Not real heavy, just all around gothic

5.0 out of 5 stars Deadstar Assembly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, August 14, 2006
This review is from: Unsaved (Audio CD)
Wow, I'am mind blown by this cd. It is sick! From the first track to the last. Not a bad song on it! No track skipping needed on this one. I don't know what else to say except, it's like they took the first album and smacked you in the face with it and this album they grabbed hold of your lower jaw and slammed it down your throut. I have got to see this band live! Buy This Album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And join the DeadStar Army!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Long Wait is Over..., July 13, 2006
This review is from: Unsaved (Audio CD)
The sophmore release from south Florida's DSA is so much better than the self-titled as Dearborn(Vocals, Orchastrated Mayhem) actually recorded with the band: The Dro(Bass), Mubo(ex-member/Keyboards), DreGGs(Guitar), and Cygnus(Drums). This album was surprisingly a lot heavier than their first. It really captured their stage presense. I definetely recommend for any person in the DSA Army. FCUK HATERS!

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad super-manufactured electro-crap from FL, August 26, 2006

The fact that some people call music like this "brilliant" just makes me cringe. This band is nothing more than a bunch of Hot Topic models playing the same tired metal riffs(static-x anyone?). The vocals are so over-processed that you would never know one way or the other if the guy could actually sing...which he cannot.. I live in their hometown and have witnessed their debauchery first-hand and...well....it sucked. From the stupid clothes and band names to their derivative boring music, this band is just about as bland as a warm glass of club soda. Even Crossbreed's music was WAY better than this drivel. I know I am breing harsh but really, its 2006 and we are still hearing the same stuff that we heard over a decade ago. If you love electronic rock you might as well do yourself some good and buy an album by Deadsy or Zeromancer...or dig out your old Orgy albums. But please stay away from this bad excuse for a marketing scheme. A total bore of an album. Nuff said.
