Book Description

Where is Justine Bishop?
And why did she abandon her children?

Thomas Kent is determined to find out. Asked to pick up a "package" at the airport by an old friend he barely remembers, Thomas is shocked when he finds two desperate children looking to him for help. As he’s reluctantly drawn into the murderous plot of a ruthless cult, Thomas is forced to come face-to-face with his own torturous guilt over the tragic loss of his family and faith. Why does the cult so desperately want the kids? Their mother, Justine Bishop, holds the key. He just has to find her . . . or die trying.

This is an excellent read -- exciting, suspenseful, compelling, interesting. It's got everything you'd expect from a great thriller -- except the objectionable language or "adult" material! Couldn't put it down, and I highly recommend it. Can't wait for more!

5.0 out of 5 stars Compelling, Riveting Read May 2, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Hold on to your seat as you take off on this journey with a compelling, riveting read. This is my first time reading this author but it won't be my last. A special treat was the part Louisiana setting, since I'm a Louisiana girl, and I loved the accurate visual descriptions of the bayou that took me home. You won't be able to put this one down, wanting to see what happens next as a father gives his life to save his children and send them off to a man he's had no contact with in years, hoping he can save his children. The characters are as well developed as the plot. Thomas and Justine end up main characters, but I loved the little blind boy who saw more than his sighted sister. I loved the dog's name, Gumbo and used to have a German shepherd. Pets in a book are extra value to me since I love animals. If you haven't read this man yet, check him out. You'll be glad you did. At first I wasn't much interested in the book when I saw it was about a cult, but once I got into it and realized how it was going, I'm glad I read it. I think this book is a Must Read for anyone you know who is even thinking of joining a cult. if you can get them to read it. It's bound to change minds. I found the novel to be enlightening since I know next to nothing about cults, and that's what made me realize how valuable this book could prove. It's also a great escape and enjoyable read with mystery, intrigue, and great visual description that makes it come alive, a five-star novel all the way!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast moving Christian mystery. May 7, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was a very suspenseful fast moving story. I liked the book because it was a mystery but wasn't filled with sex and curse words like so many of the mysteries are that one can pick up. The best reason I found this author so enjoyable was due to real life situations and the godly ways to deal with them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Read! June 17, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is an excellent novel filled with suspense and makes you think about the reality of Cults in today's society. The characters were well developed and the book kept you guessing at what would come next. I have become accustomed to figuring out the end of stories before I read it, but with this book.....NO IDEA! I didn't know what would happen after each scene. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

4.0 out of 5 stars Emotional April 17, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The author did an incredible job showing the emotions each character felt - raw and real. That was the main thing that stood out to me. The characters were well written. The backstory of the characters gave them depth. I REALLY enjoyed it. Well done!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible Thriller! June 22, 2014
Format:Paperback
This book is incredibly suspenseful! So much so that I had to set it down several times because my heart couldn't take it. lol It is a very well written book full of twists and turns and you just aren't sure what's going to happen next.

Thomas is a man with things that haunt him. He's living a life in one room with his German Shepherd, Gumbo (don't you love that name?). He get's a cryptic message saying, "Save...My...Children". He has no idea what this means until he gets the secret code that he and his fellow believers set up in college. It was a code to let the others know that they need help and they all promise to be there for one another.

Thomas really doesn't want to get involved, but when he sees the danger that these two children are in, he does the right thing. I really enjoyed the children - twins, one a boy who is blind and his sister. The boy especially was really a great character as he truly "saw" more than his sister, who is sighted.

The evilness of this cult is so horrible that it just took my breath away. The things people were willing to do for Father Antoine was just stunning. Murder was nothing if it was done in his name. It just chilled me to the bone - it was horrible.

This action packed book will have you on the edge of your seat the whole time as Thomas and the children try to dodge these evil people. They are threatened because what they have can blow the lid off the whole sorted, horrible cult. You'll be cheering Thomas and his friends as they try to bring light on this very dark cult.

If you love an action packed thriller, this is the book for you! The story line is amazing and the characters are ones you won't soon forget! I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

This book is a page turner--you just have to know what happens next. The characters are so real you think you know them. I learned that no matter what might happen, God knows what He's doing and it's for my good in the end.

More About the Author

James H. (Jim) Pence is a full-time speaker, singer, chalk artist, writer, and editor, living in North Texas. Jim turned to writing in 1988 as a helpful means of expression after the death of his baby daughter Michelle. Eight years later, Dallas Seminary's Kindred Spirit published A Road Not Chosen, Jim's narrative account of his and his wife's experience.

Jim broke into book publishing in 2001 with How to Do Everything with HTML, a how-to book on Web authoring, written "by a non-techie for non-techies," and published by Osborne/McGraw-Hill. He followed this book the same year with another book for Osborne: Cascading Style Sheets: A Beginner's Guide. Osborne published a second edition of Jim's HTML book, re-titled How to Do Everything with HTML & XHTML, in 2003.

Also a published novelist, Jim is the author of Blind Sight (Tyndale, 2003), a suspense/thriller novel set in the mind-control cults. His most recent novel, The Angel (Kregel, 2006), is set against the backdrop of the euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide movements. The Angel provides a chilling look at what can happen when society no longer values human life. It is also a compelling portrayal of one man's struggle with Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Jim moved into nonfiction with "Terror by Night", the true story of the brutal Texas murders that destroyed a family, restored one
man's faith, and shocked a nation. Terror by Night was released by Tyndale House in October 2009. Tyndale is also re-released Jim's novel, Blind Sight with Terror by Night because there is an amazing connection between Blind Sight and Terry's recovery after the murder of his family.

Most recently, Jim wrote "More God" the amazing story of Nate Lytle, a young surfer who suffered a massive traumatic brain injury and was not expected to live--but God had other plans. "More God" is an incredible story of hope and answered prayer.

A 1978 graduate of Dallas Bible College and a 2003 graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary, Jim has been in full time ministry since 1978. He served fifteen years as pastor of Fellowship Bible Church in Greenville, Texas before launching out by faith into prison ministry. He left pastoral ministry in 2000 to concentrate on reaching out into prisons in Texas. Jim continues to evangelize and disciple inmates through his Inmate Bible Institute and through prison chapel programs.

A talented chalk artist and vocalist, Jim has shared Christ across the United States through music and art. Jim and his wife Laurel recently celebrated their 29th wedding anniversary. They live on six acres in the country, northeast of Dallas, Texas, and have two children. Their son Chris is 23 and married his childhood sweetheart Betsy Corbet in 2008. Chris and Betsy have a 3-year-old daughter, Elaina Michelle. Jim and Laurel's daughter Charlene is
19, and works as a dental assistant.
