4.0 out of 5 stars Stanley Jones's Vision and Legacy
This was Jones's final attempt to sum up the message of his ministry. Jones saw early on that if the Kingdom of God was the central emphasis of Jesus then as an evangelist for Jesus the Kingdom must become his own central emphasis as well. 1.0 out of 5 stars disappointed
I was very disappointed by this book. E. Stanley Jones is a favorite author of mine. This book was obviously written by an 87 year old man within an editor. It not only has typos, misuse of words, but in many places it is reduntant. There are gems buried in this poorly written book, but most of them have already appeared in The Word Become Flesh.

This was Jones's final attempt to sum up the message of his ministry. Jones saw early on that if the Kingdom of God was the central emphasis of Jesus then as an evangelist for Jesus the Kingdom must become his own central emphasis as well. With the Kingdom as his guiding light Jones devoted his ministry to working out the principles of that Kingdom and unashamedly applying them to the world he saw around him. Two earlier books, Is the Kingdom of God Realism? and Christ's Alternative to Communism lay out the foundations of his view in a more clear and radical manner. But this is mainly because of the context in which they were written (the mid-twentieth century) where the ideologies competing for the world's loyalites could be so clearly contrasted (Fascism, Nazism, Communism). The Unshakable Kingdom book comes out of a less conflicted time and loses some of its edge because of that; and yet it remains a good place to start in understanding what Jones was about. The core of his written work will always remain the daily devotionals, which as Howard Snyder once pointed out are really manuals for radical discipleship. Jones was not a theologian and this book is not really a work of theology at all. But there are many theologians who have written about the Kingdom for many years and from many angles and have missed many of the points that Jones makes clear in this book.

E.Stanley Jones maps out very convincing and compelling arguments for the Unshakable Kingdom of God and the Unchanging Person of Jesus Christ. There are no frills about the book. Jones explains the Gospel and the way believers need to live in this world; that is to say, with the mindset of living life for God's kingdom.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning revelation on the Kingdom of God, February 19, 2008
By
I am a leader of a group of churches and different ministries. My main concern is; why is the church not functioning as it should? We have become a group of struggling beggars. In this book E. Stanley Jones reveals the principles and perspectives on the Kingdom needed for the church to be real church again. His approach to surrender has already changed my life and my leaders to the extent that the church is moving into a local revival. If you take his writings seriously, you will be seriously changed, and the Kingdom will come in your midst.

5.0 out of 5 stars unbelievable read, June 2, 2008

after graduating seminary and attending doctorate of ministry courses, this was the most important educational experience i've had. had i read this book while in seminary, it would've exponentially increased the effectiveness of my education. Jones introduces the reader to the most radical and most transformative teaching ever. many people look to a book called The Secret or a New Earth, but Jones reminds us that the central teaching of Jesus Christ is the secret that will institute and establish a new earth.

Having great confidence in Jones I ordered three copies knowing I would want to pass them along to my friends. Anyone want a free copy?

5.0 out of 5 stars Every Christian Should Read, February 4, 2011
Amazing book. Next tp the Bible I cannot recall another book that has impacted my faith, theology, and beliefs - each page was as though the Holy Spirit was turning the page. For the committed Christian, this is a must read - because E Stanley Jones, at 87 years old, writes a clear and precise message of what is important about our faith. I thought the first 50 pages were a little slow but then I could not put it down - although I must confess, every 3-10 pages I would have to stop and absorb, think, and pray. It was too much clarity. I felt like the blinds of religion were being taken off my eyes and life. I recommended this book to family, friends, and you. You will not be disappointed. God bless...

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful and Motivating, December 17, 2010

I love this book! The title could easily have been Love God, Love People. You can expect to hear the same message repeatedly. I thought I'd resent the repetitious lessons. In retrospect, it was necessary to drive the points home. This book is a must read for every person who loves Jesus.
