Book Description

Unshelved June 27, 2006
What happens in the library stays in the library. But oh, what happens in the library! Dewey has a book club, and you do not talk about Book Club. Colleen has a blog, but she doesn't know everyone can read it. Someone gave vegan Tamara a membership to the ham-of-the-month-club. And Merv reserved every copy of the new Harry Potter for purposes nefarious. This fourth Unshelved collection also features dozens of full-page full-color comic-format book talks, plus a very special storytime zombie nursery rhyme.

5.0 out of 5 stars I admit it. I'm hooked on the series, August 2, 2006

The latest compilation of the Overdue (tm thingie) comics is a welcome addition to my personal library. The copy at work keeps on disappearing.

Although set in a library context, the fodder for the humor is more like a Dilbert (tm thingie?) who has been placed in direct contact with customers on a daily basis. The material provides an outlet for the folks who have to remember the adage "There are no dumb questions" is in fact a falsehood.

PS -- the Library "Raid Jacket" and hat have gotten me past a number of security folks, helped me out of a speeding ticket in Atlanta, and resulted in receiving the extra length seats on an airplane.

4.0 out of 5 stars I pity the fool who doesn't read Unshelved, August 3, 2006

This review is from: Unshelved Volume 4: Book Club (Paperback)
I started reading Unshelved a couple of years ago when a fellow Firefly fan pointed me to the series of strips where Dewey uses Firefly trivia as criteria for entering the library. Unshelved is about libraries and librarians in the same way that Dilbert is about software engineers and software development - sure, there are some specific jokes around the premise, but mostly it's about the oddities of human nature that we all encounter every day. And boy, are these people odd! It's hilarious and I recommend it to anyone who deals with the public at work or anyone who IS the public for some poor slob.

5.0 out of 5 stars LOVE IT!, August 3, 2006
This review is from: Unshelved Volume 4: Book Club (Paperback)
If you work in any type of customer service profession, this compilation of daily comics from Unshelved.com is for you! Gene and Bill do an excellent job of finding the humor in everyday life in a suburban library. Plus, once a week you get treated to a "Book Club" selection - a fun and hilarious full-color comic all about a new excellent book - these have certainly made MY "Must-Read" list a lot longer! So...CHECK IT OUT!
(Okay, so my library humor is not quite as great as Bill and Gene's!)
