Dilbert for librarians,
By
This review is from: Unshelved, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
Unshelved is the ongoing saga of life at the Mallville Public Library, featuring Dewey (the caffeine-addicted, comic-reading YA librarian), Mel (the new branch manager, who's just having the shine worn off...), Tamara (an overly-upbeat children's librarian), Colleen (the computer-illiterate reference librarian), Merv (a 12 year old who spends all of his free time in the library, although he doesn't actually read anything), and 'Buddy the Book Beaver' (long story). Wonderful stuff, which started life as an e-comic. The artwork starts out a little rough, but the creators soon get into the swing of things. The book itself is a good quality paperback - much better than I would expect from a self-published work. (...)

Who knew a librarian's job was so exciting?,

Okay, I know what you're thinking - "A comic strip? About libraries? In what world is that supposed to be funny?" But surprise, surprise, this is funny, and you don't have to be a librarian or even well-read to enjoy this.
If you haven't met him yet, I advise you to meet Dewey, Mallville's sarcastic, put-upon young adult librarian, who would rather be playing video games or reading comic books than doing any actual work. Watch as he takes on irate customers, nudist libertarian lawyers, a man who has legally changed his name to "Buddy the Book Beaver", a silent superhero called The Shusher, and just tries to make it through the day in one piece. Don't forget to check out the entire series!

Mallville rocks!,

This review is from: Unshelved, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
My wife works in a library so I bought this for her, after having read the strip online for months (http://www.overduemedia.com), and it was the best thing I've given her since the wedding ring. Her coworkers, who have pasted up printed-out strips and pinned them up all over the back room of the library, were quite envious. EXCELLENT book! Bill & Gene are working on Volume 2, due out soon.

Super funny even if you average 1 visit to a library a year,
This review is from: Unshelved, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
The unshelved comics are great. I limit myself to 5 comics a day and unshelved definetly got a spot. When I first saw a recommendation for it I wasn't so sure since I average one visit a year to a library (this including when I was in college) but it is totally accessable to even non-libraries. I highly recommend checking it out!

Library humor for all,
By
This review is from: Unshelved, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
This series of library comic strips is funny not only to librarians, but to anyone who uses the library (evidenced by the fact that my mother and sister both enjoy them!). Dewey and his staff encounter situations that all public service employees deal with, and everyone should check out their website then buy the books!

If you are involved with a library, you will LOVE this book!,

This review is from: Unshelved, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
The original book that started it all. Ambaum and Barnes strike comic gold with spot-on satire and other zaniness from the modern library system. I've worked at a library for two years now, and as I turn each page I find myself breaking up in laughter at the fact that most of the situations found in this and the other Unshelved books have happened to me, or I heard about them from someone else. Definitely worth a read... and a re-read! Five stars.

This review is from: Unshelved, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
If you work in any type of customer service profession, this compilation of daily comics from Unshelved.com is for you! Gene and Bill do an excellent job of finding the humor in everyday life in a suburban library. So...CHECK IT OUT! (Okay, so my library humor is not quite as great as Bill and Gene's!)

Read this comic!,

This review is from: Unshelved, Vol. 1 (Paperback)
Unshelved is a hilarious comic set in the world of Library Science. I'm not a librarian, but have worked at libraries in the past and this comic is great at making what really happens behind the scenes at libraries really funny.
The art in Volume One is odd, but don't let that put you off. Dewey may look funny for a few weeks worth of comics, but by the end of Volume One the art gets more consistent. Unshelved: Volume One is sure to keep the attention of anyone who has ever worked at a library, is friends with a library employee, or even someone who is a frequent visitor to the library. Definitely a must read! Check it out! |
