Book Description

"A strong, savvy dissection of how two people’s lives are intertwined by violence, psychology and grief." KIRKUS REVIEWS

“Toby Neal weaves a spell-binding suspense that pulls you in with breathtaking scenery, flawed characters, and brilliantly twisted psychology.” Gae-Lynn Woods, author of the Cass Elliott Crime Series

Only a volcano can cure some things.

Dr. Caprice Wilson, police psychologist, has spent her life unraveling the mysteries of the human mind—only to find herself in a deep crisis. Caprice prescribes herself a walkabout and goes hiking on Maui—but the solitary retreat she has in mind does not go as planned. Caprice faces an enemy she never knew she had and wrestles with questions of hope, identity, loss, and the nature of psychopathy in a cat-and-mouse game with survival at stake.

5.0 out of 5 stars Death and Despair at 10,000 feet! August 2, 2013
By Bonny
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This new book of Toby Neal's brings to life one of the more interesting characters from the Lei Crime Series, Dr. Wilson. Dr. Wilson helped Lei work through some of her inner demons with a brisk, forthright clarity that was the polar opposite of the stereotypical navel-gazing therapist that is so often portrayed. In Unsound it is revealed that Dr. Wilson has quite a few of her own demons that she deals with in her own way with mixed results. On a journey of self healing and awareness a skeleton from her past suddenly intrudes and she is cast into a life or death situation in the stark beauty of one of Hawaii's dormant volcanoes. The mix of haunting scenery and mind chilling twists will keep you riveted. A fantastic read.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW! August 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
All I can say is, WOW! I thoroughly enjoyed Toby Neal's latest companion novel, Unsound and was at the edge of my seat as the story unfolded! Without any spoilers, there are a couple of things that I can share about Unsound.

Set primarily on the island of Maui, Toby uses her first-hand knowledge of the island to bring the setting to life. Throughout the novel, one can visualize the location--"smell" the flowers, "hear" the nene goose, and "see" the silversword and other indigenous plants. However, Toby's clear description of the setting doesn't distract from the story, as is so often the case with other writers.

The main character, Dr. Caprice Wilson, while facing her personal daemons, has an unexpected encounter. With a background in counseling, Toby's character takes on the voice of experience while showing compassion and courage! Of course, this isn't just a nice story of a Dr. and her patients - there are some definite twists and turns in the plots as we learn more about Caprice Wilson! After reading this novel, I can only hope that Dr. Wilson returns for another adventure! Don't miss, Unsound by Toby Neal. A five star novel!

5.0 out of 5 stars Unsound October 16, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I downloaded this book back in August because it was by Tony Neal, but didn't really get into reading it until a couple of weeks ago. I loved it! It's one of those books that you don't want to put down, but then you don't want to finish it either, anticipating what is going to happen.
I won't go into details for those that haven't read the book, but being a recovering alcoholic, it definitely struck a few chords of mixed emotions for me.
Definitely worth the read!

5.0 out of 5 stars September 26, 2013

I just finished reading "Unsound" and thoroughly enjoyed it. It brought back memories of when I counseled people before I retired from ministry. Actually, and even though she doesn't really admit it, I wonder how much of the author is in this book. Whatever the case, it was suspenseful, informative, educational and all around good reading. Thanks Toby.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love Toby Neal's books. September 27, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Another great book by Toby Neal. Dr. Caprice Wilson, Lei Tex Texeura's therapist who also works for the police/FBI when needed. Someone may be stalking her; she needs more protection. Difficulty with her twin sister's previous death, her divorce, and her son going on to college, her social drinking has now escalated bringing her life down to the bottom. Will the presumed stalker be able to bring her back or....... Must read this book. Impatiently waiting for the newest books to be available--"Shattered Palms", "Wired in Paradise", and "The Waiting Room".

3.0 out of 5 stars Read if you are a fan of the Lei series November 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is an interesting development of one of the normally supporting characters in the Lei series. The story unfolds in a manner that keeps the reader engaged. The relevance between the plot and the character is what makes it interesting and tees up future novels.
