CRITICAL BASHINGFirst off, let me mention how annoying it is to have people complain about how a low budget independent horror flick contains bad acting. Seriously? Tom Hanks or Morgan Freeman didn't care to add another couple hundred bucks to their billion dollar bankroll? Get over it! A person watches a Troma film because of it's unbridled creative madness and lack of big studio guidelines or censorship. UNSPEAKABLE is the debut film from Chad Ferrin, and he definitely unleashes some sick, uncomfortable ideas upon the viewer. UNSPEAKABLE STORY The movie opens up with a fatal car crash. What follows is a demented mental unraveling like you've never witnessed. But really, this movie is a warped revenge story. Jim Fhelleps wants revenge for being born. He's trapped inside a destructive marriage and his own self-destructive mind. He walks along the jagged edge of sanity, only finding balance with his beloved little daughter, Heather. After the horrible car wreck, he loses what little grasp of reality he was clinging to. SICKOS GALORE Don't expect to see any heroes here. This story doesn't include a lovable geekboy running around slaughtering bullies and saving the day. There is nobody here to root for whatsoever, as all the characters are pretty much scum. We've got molesters, hookers, gangsters, and other dirtbags. Even Jim is totally despicable. ACTING MONSTROSITY It is a Troma film, c'mon! The acting is pretty atrocious, except for Timothy Muskatell. Dang he's a little too comfortable with the vermin roles. He plays Barry, the physical therapist that cares(cough!) for the deformed, wheelchair confined wife. It's a Jerry Springer Show romance in the making. MURDER MURDER MURDER Some good bloody effects and camera work, very well done considering the budget. Loved one head-bashing camera shot up through the glass of a coffee table. GLOOMY HUMOR There is some flashes of dark comedy here that might momentarily lighten the mood. Amazing what poop on the floor and cartoonish sound effects can do. DIRTY, FILTHY Bad language, watch out. Some direct sexual dialogue that doesn't beat around the bush. And speaking of shrubbery, this also contains graphic nudity. FINAL GRADE--7 out of 10 stars. Highly recommended to any low budget horror fans. You Hollywood horror lovers, why are you even here?

Chad Ferrin wanted to shock his audience. He did not succeed. He did make a very sleazy picture, but it does not shock. Why not? Because he makes the mistake of trying to dIsguise his shlock-fest as some sort of psychological thriller and he is simply not up to the task. This film takes itself very seriously. However, the script is bad, the acting is worse, and the idea is only partially realized. I have no idea what in the world our anti-hero is thinking. The result is hokey melodrama of the worst sort. The story is very simple. A man loses his daughter (whom he was molesting) in a car accident that also makes a vegetable of his wife. He is driven insane with loss and guilt and decides to kill people. Some of them deserve it, like the sicko nurse who takes care of his invalid wife, and some do not, like the bright-eyed prostitute who gets her face smashed into a table until there isn't much left of it. The guy playing the lead should never be allowed to act in any venue ever again. He is horrible. This movie is just about filth and violence - which is fine, as long as it is honest about it. I like dark films. I like low budget films. But this film just don't cut it. There are effective scenes; mostly the violent ones. But these scenes are only effective in the moment. Contextually, they are simply random acts of violence. If you really like sleaze, go ahead and purchase it because you won't find it at many video rental stores and it's pretty cheap here. Just understand that you are buying PRETENTIOUS sleaze. The best part of this flick are the flashbacks of the daughter who is supposed to be around twelve, but looks about thirty-five. Priceless!

I have read about this movie in lots of reviews, with people saying how sick and twisted it is. Well, they were WRONG. What this movie is , is a sad attempt to be a sick , twisted psycological thriller. Many of the scenes dont make any sense. He jumps from one topic to another leaving you saying what does this part or the dialogue have anything to do with the movie. The killings are absolutley horrible and totally unrealistic. It also has me wonder how he finds a couple of the people that he killed. The acting was absolutley horrible and not even " B-Movie " acting just way worse. So please dont buy this movie or rent it, if you know some one who has it borrow it and thats it. I know I will never watch it again, it was that bad.AlsoIm not one to complain about " b-movies". I have 2 flicks buy Hershell Gordon Lewis " Gore Gore Girls" and " Two Thousand Maniacs", also have 4 movies by Troma Video " Toxic Avenger ", " Tromeo and JUliet", " Blood Sucking Freaks " and the one disc edition with " Garden of the dead, Unspeakable and Buttcrack " all on one DVD . So yes , I am a big fan of 70's and 80's horror and love a good B -flick but this one is being unspeakable is just down right garbage. Maybe with more money better actors and better director this movie could have been good. cause the idea behind it is excellent.

For some reason Amazon has mixed this up with the 1996 film "Unspeakable" aka "Criminal Pursuit" aka "Shadow of a Scream" (latter is the title of the VHS version that Amazon apparently DOES carry). This one's a totally different Troma slasher film.

It's un-conceivable, un-believably bad, un-realistic, un-comprehensible, un-smart, un-scary, un-fun, un-necessary, un-official, un-even, un-eventful, un-explained, un-fullfilling, un-forgivable, un-godly, un-needed, un-impressive, un-imaginable, un-imaginative, un-inspired, un-intelligent, un-interesting, un-kind, un-justified, un-likely, un-balanced, un-bearable, un-certain, un-clear, un-common, un-savory, un-ruly, un-natural, ... and of course UN-SPEAKABLE!! Avoid this turkey even on Thanksgiving.

Chad Ferrin (Someone's Knocking at the Door) is a director who has yet to make a film that I didn't like. Unspeakable was the beginning of his directorial career and as freshman efforts go this is an awesome example of talent in gestation. Loved the movie and loved the experience I had with this seller. I got the movie for a wonderful price (ridiculously low for something so great) and it arrived in record time! I can't recommend this movie highly enough! Hardcore fans of the weird should truly dig this nifty little revenge flick. It makes stuff like Death Sentence look like General Hospital. An unrelenting and unforgettable film, to say the least!

Gross, nasty and mean, but Chad Ferrin gets points for putting a video together with a budget he probably could have spent on a pretty good used car or maybe a Hyundai with no frills. The actors compensate for the miniscule budget.Roger Cline keeps a disturbed idiotic look that's believable as he lumbers through his shattered, psychotic life. Timothy Muskatell pulls double duty as a creepy male nurse (aren't they all?) and as a hostile, uptight small-time crimelord credited as Wolf Dangler. If you like entertainment in the vein of Troma's "Mother's Day" or WIlliam Lustig's "Maniac" series, this is right up your alley. If you're looking for "Gone with the Wind", RUN FAST!!

REAL BAD,

Lots of confusion here! Most of the reviewers here are refering to 'The Unspeakable', which came out this year. The 2000 movie, 'Unspeakable' is what I'm reviewing. This is probably one of the worst directed and acted movies I have seen. It is riddled with poor focus(!), horrible framing, and jump cuts (which are ok if used properly). The script should get a little credit, it is a good idea... a pediphile flung into insanity after the death of his daughter & victim, but the writer probably shoulda got someone with skill to direct this one. The DVD itself is full of wonderful oddities taken from other troma movies and godknows where else, if you like weird stuff, check it out. Overall, it is what you expect from Troma, personally, i refuse to sit thru another.

I have watched Unspeakable numerous times, as every opportunity I get I try to share it with those that have not been introduced to the sick, twisted world the film presents. Strangely enough, though, this is a world we all live in everyday. The film just presents it on a darker level. It is effective, creepy, and downright disturbing. Director Chad Ferrin has created a dark and sinister story revolving around a man whose life is turned upside down after an accident claims the life of his daughter and permanently disables his wife. As he sinks deeper into his depression, he begins a descent into madness that eventually drives him to murder. Sure, its been done to death, several times over. BUT NEVER LIKE THIS! Kudos to Troma for putting this out to the unsuspecting world. And BRAVO, Mr. Ferrin. I cannot wait to see what you have on tap for your follow up to this incredibly affecting film.

Now, I've seen several Troma films...most of them, well, suck. I saw this movie for the first time at my friends house, and never forgot how sick, twisted, gross, and gory this film was. I loved it. And for being Troma, had decent acting and had a great script. This is a must for Troma fans. One of Troma's best!
