5.0 out of 5 stars Oh my Goodness!
Thank Goodness Darrien is finished with her teen books, because I have been dying to read some of her Adult fiction books. This was part II to her book she did a few years back "Brotherly Love" and it picks right back up with all the drama that it left off with. I love how her books flow so smoothly and there is not a dry storyline in the book. Cherise and her husband...

3.0 out of 5 stars Am I My Brother's Keeper!
Let me start by saying how much I love Ms. Lee's work. I've been a fan of hers since the "All That and a Bag of Chips" series with Craig and Vernice. I thought there should have been a sequel to Brotherly Love with the way it ended, but wasn't for sure. I read this book in one day and ejoyed everything about it: the drama, the strongholds, and yes even the sex (it was...

Cherise and her husband Mason are back being the loving couple they were before the drama but drama has a way of creeping up in there lives. Vincent is still in love with his brother's wife but starts up a relationship with Elizabeth who is no fool and can sense that something is not right. This was a page turner from beginning to the end and if you haven't read any of her other books you should get them all of her characters are professional black people and I love that.

Let me start by saying how much I love Ms. Lee's work. I've been a fan of hers since the "All That and a Bag of Chips" series with Craig and Vernice. I thought there should have been a sequel to Brotherly Love with the way it ended, but wasn't for sure. I read this book in one day and ejoyed everything about it: the drama, the strongholds, and yes even the sex (it was not too graphic, but yet steamy enough). However, I didn't know Mason was that deep in adultery as explained in Unspoken Lies. You would have thought the adultery started with his undercover work in Brotherly Love. But in any case, I found Mason to be a weak man throughout the book. This book should have been about the Unspoken Truth which is, the marriage between CJ and Mason has long since been over; but yet they were trying to make it work for the sake of the kids. Mason knew he had a weakness for women, one in particular, but wouldn't tell CJ the truth. Mason also knew who was "sexting" him and wouldn't say. And the drugs, since when did Mason started dabbling with drugs?! There was so much you learned in this book that wasn't brought to light in the prequel. You wouldn't have ever thought this of Mason's character. However, I was glad to see that Vincent and Mason was able to keep their Brotherly Love in spite of certain situations and the drama.

Overall, an excellently written book. It ended like there may be a sequel. If so, pleeease Ms. Lee don't keep us waiting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally!!!, April 9, 2010

After Darrien Lee left her fans hanging on the edge for four years she finally wraps up the conclusion to Brotherly Love. This book was great from the beginning to the end. We revisit Cherise a.k.a C.J., Vincent, and Mason after a few years. Cherise and Mason are trying to be the happy couple and work on their shaky marriage but Vincent is still madly in love with Cherise. Vincent is trying so hard to move on with his life by dating the beautiful Elizabeth just so that he can let his brother and his sister-in-law move on but he just can't seem to let go of his feelings for C.J. This story was great from the beginning all the way to the end from the deception to the many twists and turns. Great Job Mrs. Lee I love all of your books can't wait for the next book.

2.0 out of 5 stars All About Vincent! *Spoiler Alert*, April 15, 2010
This review is from: Unspoken Lies (Urban Renaissance) (Paperback)
I'm going with reviewer book lover, this was a book of nothing but lies! If you loved Vincent in book I then this is the book for you. This story picks up 3 weeks from book I featuring stressed and emotional Forensic Investigator Cherise battling her feelings for her BIL Vincent while trying to rebuild her relationship with her cold case detective husband Mason but it was obvious from the start that it wasn't going to happen. This story was about Vincent constantly proclaiming his love to Cherise, constantly touching and kissing her with a fake storyline thrown in of him moving on with new love interest Elizabeth. As in book I Mason & Cherise's whole relationship is always mentioned while Vincent gets most of the dialoge, Vincent gets the interactions and Vincent gets the physical contact. The author tried to give Mason a storyline with an ex turned stalker but this failed badly because once again he was the bad guy while Vincent, his covetous, back stabbing brother gets to be the hero to his wife and even his children. I was totally disappointed with this story, it should've been titled Vincent's Victory.

This book is the sequel to 'Brotherly Love' and it was explosive. The first book ended with a bang and this one is just as explosive. I could not put it down after reading the first page. Mason, Cherise and Vincent all face up to past infidelities and lies which will have a emotional and devastating affect on all them and a few others too. Unspoken Lies is a great title for this book and you will agree after you read this amazing book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unspoken Lies, July 26, 2010
This review is from: Unspoken Lies (Urban Renaissance) (Paperback)
I have been a fan of Darrien Lee since All That and a Bag of Chips. I felt like I was part of Venice and Craig's lives. I thought I was going to be disappointed when the trilogy ended but Darrien did not let me down. I was just as involved with the characters from Brotherly Love and was so excited to see that Darrien made a sequel,Unspoken Lies. I love Darrien's writing. I hope she continues to keep her fans entertained with bittersweet romance and true love.

4.0 out of 5 stars (RAW Rating: 3.5) - You Can't Hide Love, July 7, 2010

This review is from: Unspoken Lies (Urban Renaissance) (Paperback)
UNSPOKEN LIES, the sequel to Darrien Lee's Brotherly Love, picks up four years after the ending of the last book. Cherise and Mason are focusing on their marriage with their two kids and Mason's brother, Vincent, is still trying to get over the love he has for his brother's wife. All is going well until Cherise starts to notice Mason is back to his old tricks - working long hours, staying out late and neglecting his family. In his absence, Cherise is spending too much quality time with Vincent, although he has a new girlfriend. When Mason's past comes back to haunt him, keeping it from Cherise sets a lot of drama in motion.

Readers can count on Darrien Lee to bring relationship drama and UNSPOKEN LIES delivers. The chemistry between Cherise and Vincent was as strong as in Brotherly Love, which made for some intense moments. There was not enough interaction between Cherise and Mason in my opinion, especially since they were focusing on getting their relationship back on track. However, that lack of interaction did lend itself for the climatic scenes contained in the book. I enjoyed spending time with the characters again. My only disappointment is the lack of originality. The plot was very similar to the first one.

1.0 out of 5 stars Simply Lies, April 6, 2010

Book Lover (Duncanville, TX) - See all my reviews

This book was just horrible, just full of lies from everybody. I only bought this book because I purchased brotherly love a couple of years ago, so when I read the sequel was out I bought it to see if the author had improved her writing skills. NOT!!!!!!!!! Vincent and Cherise tried to make Mason out the the bad guy. They all had issues. Heads up, for the readers who didn't enjoy Brotherly Love, you will NOT want to read the sequel.

This author writing style is the same in all of her books that I have read. This is the reason why I stopped buying her books. Her books are written for high school girls with no life experience outside of mom & dad house.

EXAMPLE: If one more male character dies so the female character can be with the other man she claims she loves with all her heart, even though she claim she loved the male character who died with all her heart. AND If one more character says "I don't want to talk about it anymore" I'm going to SCREAM!!!!!!!!! That statment was in all the books I have read by this author.

No more for me, I tried. The only reason I gave this book one star, because I was trying to be nice. Personally I think the author wrote a sequel to Brotherly Love was to piss off the readers who didn't care for Brotherly Love, there was no love involved. Situation like that destroy families, not live happily everafter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unspoken Lies (Urban Renaissance), September 17, 2011

I loved this book. I've read all of this author's books and have enjoyed each of them. This one seemed to have been cut short as if it's being set up for a trilogy. That would be great, to have a another trilogy from Mrs. Lee. Also, I love the characters in this book. I highly recommend this book. If you have not read any of Darrien Lee's books, please check them out. Start with her first one All that and a bag of chips, the beginning of a great collection.
I had the pleasure of meeting her in Georgia at a book signing. I didn't know what I was about to read. To my amazement, I couldn't stop reading. Here I am today some ten years later, still Loving her books.

Excellent!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable story line!, June 3, 2011

How many black men u know that will stay with their wife after they find out she's slept with their brother repeatedly?!! I don't care if he's slept with 1000 women, he still cant handle his wife sleeping with one especially if its his brother! And they all having family functions and the brother is included! That would be a little too close for comfort for 97% of black men so that's why I said this story line was unbelievable!
