Can't really see what the big deal is...,
By Gemma "bookworm" (Alberta, Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Untamed Angel (Mass Market Paperback)
From the back cover:
With a name that belied his true nature, Joshua Angell was born for deception. So when sophisticated and proper Ava Moreland first laid eyes on the sexy drifter in a desolate Missouri jail, she knew he was the one to save her sister from a ruined reputation and a fatherless child. But she'd need Angell to fool New York society into thinking he was the ideal husband--and only Ava could teach him how. But what started as simple lessons in etiquette and speech soon became smoldering lessons in love. And as the beautiful socialite's feelings for Angell deepened, so did her passion--and finally she knew she could never be satisfied until she, and no other, claimed him as her very own... And my review: After reading the other reviews for this book, I was expecting a can't-put-it-down amazing read. Instead, what I got was a book that I couldn't even get 100 pages into. It's hard to say what the problem was. It wasn't really one big glaring problem, just a bunch of little complaints. Like how it felt like the story was never going to really get started. Or how I felt that I knew nothing about the characters (especially the heroine) beyond their surface descriptions. Or that some of the minor characters seemed rather unnecessary to the story (it felt like they were just taking up space). Or how the chemistry between the hero and heroine was non-existent. Then the author seems to suddenly realize, 'oh, I'm almost at page 100, better make them kiss'. It was very jarring and just didn't fit into the story at all. Instead of a sigh that they're kissing, it was a disbelieving snort and a 'yeah, right' under my breath. And I'm not just saying this because it's a romance novel--I am a great lover of romance novels, in fact, I read almost nothing else! 99% of my books are romances. So it's not the case of a reader thinking that romances are lame, just that this romance was not very well developed. My first try of Elaine Fox, and probably my last.

I really enjoyed this book. A little more action or mystery would've been great but there was enough suspense to make you keep going. The storyline was quite different but good nonetheless. I would certainly recommend this book.

I got an advance copy of this novel and before I read it, I would not consider myself a romance novel reader. That has changed now. This author has an excellent way of making you see the settings and characters. I was very impressed and felt as if I knew the characters. I have since gone back and read her other works and have not been let down in the least. Best case for you at Amazon: More Elaine Fox!!!!!

What a great story to escape the reality of everyday life.,

I found myself actually thinking about the setting of this story and wishing this could be visual (movie) and at the same time, not wanting it to be a movie because it would change the image I had of it already. What a pleasure and arrousing novel to read.
