From the back of the book:

When Lord Alaistair St. Simon, better known as "Saint," won the young Baron Stone's inheritance at the gaming tables, he fully intended to return Stone's vowel the next day. But the next day, Stone was dead, and his sister, Liza, was left to pay the piper. Proud to a fault, Liza refused Saint's offer of her brother's vowel and set off to find employment. Unfortunately, the only person who would hire her was the lecherous Earl of Bent, and by the time she had taken his measure, her reputation was beyond the pale. Again Saint attempted to come to her rescue. Again she refused. It left him no choice: he would kidnap her and force her into a marriage of convenience they would both detest--but perhaps not so much as Saint's spurned mistress . . . .

The story was an interesting one just to see what Liza would do next. It was difficult to conceive the two of them falling passionately in love though. She had such hatred for him due to his involvement in her brother's suicide, and he just wasn't the marrying kind. He was also still dealing with guilt from his experiences during the war. Add in Saint's horrible mistress and the Earl of Bent, and you've got major trouble ready to happen.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dramatic Regency, April 9, 2000

(REAL NAME)
Georgina Devon has placed the story in the Regency time period but I personally found it a little too dramatic with emotions running high. The hero is still coming to terms with the battles he saw in Spain etc,

From the dust cover of the Mills & Boon edition...

Lizabeth Johnstone was stunned by Lord Alastair St Simon, and shocked by her reaction to him. He was the embodiment of every woman's dream, but he wasn't hers, for Alastair was responsible for the death of her younger brother. Alastair wanted to help Liza, but her refusal to accept his aid left him with no alternative - they'd have to get married...
