Editorial Reviews

Review

Capt. Rafe Stricter is on a covert mission in South America with one of his men. They are to scout out the target, give a signal and the air troops will blow it into oblivion. No one counted on his friend getting hurt. He and Rafe seek refuge in a cave, preparing for a certain death. Their training made it clear that the mission must be completed, regardless of whether they are able to leave the area. Yet when the bombs hit, Rafe and Craig are hurled more than 100 years into the past where they encounter Lorilie McCaully and her friend Marica. They are part of a group called "The Gifted." Couple their special talents with the men's fighting skills and the group stands a chance against the feared Ketchums, a group of men determined to make Lorilie theirs. In the meantime, Rafe must cope with the complexities of being in the past - and deal with his growing attraction to Lorilie. In the process, he discovers that he has gifts of his own in this untamed time. Perhaps one of the most unique time travel novels I have encountered! It certainly digresses from the normal path of being hurled back in time. Ms. Plunkett has created a new dimension to the genre that must be developed further. Very interesting twists in the storyline. The tension between Rafe and Lorilie could be cut with a knife. Although more sweet than blatantly sexual, the two come together with a powerful force. The side plot with the other two main characters adds a bonus for the reader. Amy Wilson -- Copyright © 030199 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times

5.0 out of 5 stars A terrific and different kind of time-travel, December 7, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Untamed Time (Time Passages) (Paperback)
Captain Raford Strictor knows that his life is over, but regrets that his young wounded comrade, Craig Blackstone must die too. However, duty and honor comes before personal safety and Rafe calls in the bombing coordinates that will leave the duo dead in the middle of the Bolivian Jungle. As the sound of the planes can be heard, Rafe prays for a miracle to save Craig's life.

The next thing Rafe and Craig realize is that they are inside a cave in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Also occupying the cave is Lorilie McCaully and Marcia Thorne, the only living members of the Gifted. The Ketchum gang wants to capture the two women in order to use their powers for personal gain. As Rafe and Lorilie fall in love and likewise so does Craig and Marcia, the two soldiers want to protect the ladies while wishing to return to their own time, a psychological disparity that seems impossible to resolve.

UNTAMED TIME is a brilliant romance that blends two great lead couples,

a fabulous support cast, and an interesting time travel premise (read the book) into a wonderful tale. The novel is so well written fans of science fiction as well romance will enjoy the cross-genre appeal of the stupendous story line. With this classy novel, Susan Plunkett demonstrates that she is one of the top genre talents.

This book started out as one of the better time travel books I've read... then died. Seems like another writer took over about half way through the book and did a poor job of finishing it up. To bad... was a great book to start.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poorly written, poorly developed, a lemon., August 11, 1999

An inadequate treatment of what could have been a very interesting novel. The characters are shallow and contradictory. Ms. Plunkett seems to think that colorful writing requires multiple adjectives, but sometimes all that gives you is a spelling list. I was disappointed.
