5.0 out of 5 stars The Most Underappreciated Album of the Year
Unfortunately for this group, this album was really overlooked by the music industry. Many reviewers shrugged it off as "another male country act trying to capitalize on the feel-good pop-country that is so popular right now". I, on the other hand, can't say enough about this debut disc and can't wait for a follow-up. It might be feel-good, rock-country...

2.0 out of 5 stars Yeesh.
Tacky, hyperactive, loudly rock-flavored pop-country, with Restless Heart/Exile-ish group vocals, and a blunted Southern rock edge. It's terrible. A couple of songs are almost, I repeat, almost, good, but really -- this is a terrible album.

Unfortunately for this group, this album was really overlooked by the music industry. Many reviewers shrugged it off as "another male country act trying to capitalize on the feel-good pop-country that is so popular right now". I, on the other hand, can't say enough about this debut disc and can't wait for a follow-up. It might be feel-good, rock-country but hey, who doesn't like to be in a good mood. Isn't that why we listen to music in the first place? The CD has a good mix of up-tempo songs and emotional ballads. Listeners will be delighted by the way that in their playful lyrics they left the listener to decide what they mean. For instance, in "Untamed" is he saying thing... or bang! There's quite a difference! And one of the better songs off the album "One" is entirely about proposing marriage but never says the dreaded "M" word. You will never reach for the skip button on this CD and you will wish you had bought it sooner rather than later!

5.0 out of 5 stars Over and over, January 13, 2000

Congratulations fellas ! You've got an awesome CD. I listened to the first song and thought it was very good. Well usually on a CD, you might get a couple of good ones. I listened to the rest of the songs. They are all great! My favorite is "Another nine minutes". Anyone who has to get up in the morning and go to work will love this song. There are slow ones fast ones a good mix. I really like the fact their songs take a tough situation in an upbeat way. This one is going to be a biggie in the next couple of months. People that don't normally listen to country will like it. I think they have a little bit of "Alabama mixed with 38 Special". They are just as good in concert also. This CD is very addictive. I listen to it over and over!

Thanks, Steve

5.0 out of 5 stars YG is Untamed!, May 2, 2000
This review is from: Untamed (Audio CD)
After seeing their live show, I instantly bought the cd. Their showmanship is impeccable and the band is very personable. From the rollicking title track to the heartfelt ballads, Untamed has a track for everyone. Regardless of what the critics say, if you appreciate all forms of country music, you'll get your moneys worth here.

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes! Yankee Grey Rocks!, December 20, 1999
By
This review is from: Untamed (Audio CD)
I have listened to the Untamed CD on several occassions - both live and at home. The drummer, Kevin Griffin, is my brother. Of course you must be thinking I am partial to this CD,and I am, but this CD IS SUPERB! It has been a long road for Yankee Grey to be where they are today and everyone I have come in contact with says their music & stage presence is awesome! After listening to Yankee Grey's live performance at the CD release in Cincinnati on 9-21-99, and again on 12-2-99 at Coyotes in Louisville I must say they are a true crowd pleaser and after people hear them perform live they usually buy their CD (always for sale where they are playing, as well as T-shirts & caps). When I first brought the CD home I was listening for errors (since I have been there from day one and know what to listen for) but couldn't hear any! YANKEE GREY's Untamed CD has something for everyone: country rock, ballads, personal stories and fun. Most of all it is just excellent music from a great group of guys! Their personalities match their music - LIKEABLE! Keep up the good work Kevin, Matt, Tim, Dave, Joe and Jerry - we love you! and look forward to the next music video release on CMT in January, 2000!

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprising Very Good, July 17, 2011
This review is from: Untamed (Audio CD)
I picked up this cd because "All Things Considered" is one of my favorite songs. I expected "Untamed" to be mediocre, because Yankee Grey is essentially a one-hit wonder. To my surprise, the cd as a whole is very good. While "All things considered" is still the best song on the cd, the remaining 9 tracks have the same solid melodies reminiscent of Restless Heart at their prime and driving riffs mixed with a smooth fiddle that sound more like soft rock/blues/country infusion than pure country. Songs like "Untamed," "This Ain't It," and "I Know How You Feel," have the upbeat pop/rock/country feel, while "Another Nine Minutes," "This Time Around," and "There's Only One," are slower and smoother country ballads. The mix of songs make for a good listen, because you're not hit over the head with a bunch of screaming rock guitars nor are you lulled to sleep with sappy love songs. This was a very good, albeit overlooked debut. Its sad this band only lasted for one more cd after this, because this debut shows a lot of potential.

5.0 out of 5 stars Man Oh Man!, December 12, 1999

This is one good group, reminiscent of Restless Heart on their first album. Okay, maybe RH's harmonies were a little more interesting, but these guys can sing...and their arrangements are better. The album provides a good mix of upbeat songs and ballads, 2 of which, "That Would be Me" and "There's Only One" should become frequent wedding songs for people looking for something different. Another nice thing about the album is that the heartbreak songs aren't they typically whiny, crying-in-your-beer variety so prevalent in male country songs, ala "All Things Considered," which should be in heavy rotation on every country station in the nation. "This Ain't It" is another song which is just slightly different from the mainstream.

They're not as gritty as Montgomery Gentry, and not as smooth as Ricochet, but Yankee Grey is worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW!, February 25, 2000
This review is from: Untamed (Audio CD)
I have the album and have seen them in concert at the Roundup in Tampa and the were GREAT. I thought the album was a great mix of fast and slow. I would recommend this to my freinds if they liked country music or not. My favorite is another nine seconds and all things considered. These guys are great!

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME, September 24, 1999
By A Customer

I had the single. Was there for their CD release in Middletown and heard 5 songs off of this release live and had rush out and pick up the whole CD. Great band, vocals, harmony, music. It is great to see a band who writes their own material. Just can't say enough good things about the CD. Great Job Yankee Grey!!!

I also have the CD and would have to say that these guys are very good. Great songs, vocals, and mix. Personally, I prefer modern rock to country, but how anyone could say that "All Things Considered" is irritating is beyond me. The only thing I can figure is that Alanna Nash doesn't like country rock, which begs the question, why is she even reviewing this CD?

I have this CD and it is great. I listen to it all of the time. I love the singles" All Things Considered and Nine Minutes." I think Nine Minutes will go to the top or close to it. Yankee Grey is awesome.
