The layout of the book is simple: Then (Who You Were), Now (Who You Are) and How (Who You Can Still Be). Section One (Then) describes the curiosity and creativity we all had in our early childhood and the endless energy we exhibited discovering the unknown. As children we were uncalculated risk takers having no boundaries and could care less about the disapproving scrutiny placed upon us by the `adult world'. We were curious about all that surrounded us and habitually pushed the limits of our reality which was constantly being redefined. As children we experienced, interpreted and interacted with the world through our right brain, the hemisphere that, as Wahl puts it, "...embraces new and unconventional ideas, the part that is fascinated by surprise, and the part that doesn't need everything to be neat and tidy and perfectly defined in order to find value."
Section Two (Now) describes our development into adulthood and how the left side of our brain, the side where analytical and rational thought and logic are housed, begins to dominate and suppress right brain traits of imagination, exploration, creation and spontaneity.Read more ›
I wanted to take a minute to share some personal comments regarding Unthink.
First, I want you to know how happy I was to have received the book as it was very timely given today’s business challenges.
By way of background, somewhere around 1990, I stopped having time to read books for pleasure despite having grown up being an avid reader. Over the years, however, I continued reading a lot of professional material, and personal/professional magazines that I could get through in a short period of time.
However, I decided that after 25 years, THIS book, and the opportunity to rediscover my creative genius, was going to be the ONE I sat down to read.
So, over the last month, I spent time reading Unthink every day, contemplating the message, thinking about creativity, what it meant and how to apply it to my situation.
The examples, and insights, were extremely valuable and thought provoking, quickly becoming the foundation, and personal motivation, for the professional interactions I have, pieces I author and media work I do.
As authors don’t always get feedback from readers, I felt it worthwhile to share my personal experience with you.
Reading Unthink served as a personal and professional awakening, helping me rediscover my creative genius, continually reinforcing the notion that there’s a value proposition in thought leadership and subject matter expertise. While taking a stand, and promoting awareness, often involves big professional risks, the book inspired to be true to my creative vision and complete the journey I’ve started no matter where it may take me.
I want to personally thank you for sharing your creative message and to let you know that Unthink had significant impact!
