5.0 out of 5 stars Tampa Lisa, January 1, 2010
This review is from: Unthinkable (Paperback)
While racing I had a 3-second encounter with an athlete (that turned out to be Scott). That moment not only affected the Ironman journey I was on, but also had an effect on the spirit of my work and play. Reading UnThinkable has acted as a great reminder of that moment. The book is a "quick read", as others have posted, mainly because it feels as if Scott is sitting in the room telling you his story. I appreciate his candor and his willingness to tell even the not-so-pretty aspects of his life (that I could often recognize and relate to!). He's quick to point out that by the grace of God we can rally and continue on, truly running the race that has been presented to us. A must read for the new year!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing; Incredible; Inspirational, October 25, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Unthinkable (Paperback)
I first heard of Scott Rigsby a few weeks ago when I was watching Kona Ironman coverage online. I was very surprised to discover a double amputee competing. I googled his name and discovered bits and pieces of an incredible story. Then I ordered the book, and have just completed one of the most amazing, incredible, inspirational books I have ever read.

I am a pastor. I am also a bit of an athlete. Scott's story blew me away. With a tremendous amount of brutal honesty, Scott tells the world how anything is possible. There were dark years in his life, years that hammered and forged him into the person he is now. I laughed - a lot. I cried - a lot. The story of Scott's first swim effort with the high school swim coach left me in stitches; the final chapter left me in tears.

This is a phenomenal story of how one person overcame tremendous physical limitations, but perhaps more significantly, mental limitations. This is a remarkable story of how one person found a renewed purpose and calling in life - not to mention a real, vital, living relationship with God - and who can now look back on the accident that left him maimed for life and actually say that he's glad it happened. Wow.

This is a book worth reading. This is a book worth sharing. This is a story worth telling. Again, and again, and again, and again.

Thank you, Scott Rigsby, for telling the world your story. We're better people, because of people like you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Motivational and Real, September 6, 2011
This review is from: Unthinkable (Paperback)
I am not an athelete, but saw Scott speak and so decided to read the book. I was immediately captivated by how it feels like you are having a conversation with Scott. I loved that Scott was so real and authentic both in the struggles and challenges he faced.

I was also surprised by how healing ths book was for me, I have a father with MS and the descriptions of Brain Injury combined with Physical Challenges is very interesting. I would recommend this book to anyone, athelete or not, who wants to read an inspiring book! As you turn the pages you realize that many of Scotts challenges weren't physical - and we can all relate to that story. I have already given my book to a friend and gotten another for a friend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome book., May 24, 2011
This review is from: Unthinkable (Paperback)
I heard about this book from a friend and purchased it a couple weeks ago. It is the best book I've ever read. Not too long, not too short. I finished it in two evenings after work.

It is not at all what you would expect. I have to admit that I was a little skeptical because sometimes these type of stories are low on substance and all about representing some "Monument" to the person's ego.

Scott Rigsby has none of that pompous ego crap in him apparently. He is very honest and open about mistakes he has made in his life, things I would not want to admit quite frankly.

The book is absolutely hilarious in parts and gut-wrenching in others, very well written. You feel as though you are being included in his story, a very interesting and inspiring story at that.

I do not hesitate to recommend this to anyone who needs some inspiration, motivation, or just plain faith in their fellow man. It is absolutely amazing what this guy accomplished!

Buy the book, YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY!.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing story and really inspirational, March 9, 2011
This review is from: Unthinkable (Paperback)
This is truly the best book that I have read in a very long time! Actually I often pick up books and never finish them! I got through this in a week (I'm a college student. If I didn't have other stuff to do, I'm sure I could have read it cover to cover in 1 day.) Anyways, I love how Scott explained that his faith in the Lord helped him to get through the toughest battles after his life-changing accident that happened 20 years before he discovered his talent and used it to make history! I'm a runner too ...and building on the triathlon part, but not an Ironman, YET! ...and also from Atlanta! GO SCOTT RIGSBY!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Honest. Gritty. Inspiring., December 17, 2009

I really appreciated the honesty and lack of pretense encountered in the telling of Scott's unthinkable journey. In a world where so many seem to think it's more honorable to hide their mistakes and weaknesses, Scott's transparency is refreshing. Few of us travel a straight path to the finish line and Scott allows us to see that disappointment, discouragement and frustration may affect our journey but do not have to define it. I also appreciate Scott's props to those who inspired him along the way. Scott, mad props to you! Well done, good and faithful servant!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truly Inspirational, an Absolute Must Read, December 13, 2009

I heard Scott's story in a radio interview which was aired in Stevens Point earlier in December and purchased his book the same night. Being a triathlete, having many friends who have completed various Ironman races and embarking on my first Ironman journey this year, I know the sacrifices and the physical pain which even the elite athletes endure while training and competing in Ironman events. I was so intrigued by Scott's story that I purchased the book the same evening. The book is so well written, it is as if you are right there during every moment, from the day of the accident all the way through to the finish line at Kona. The book will amaze you, it will make you cry, it will make you laugh, but most of all it will inspire you. I know it has inspired me to really take a look at my life and stop worrying about the things that I cannot change but most of all to trust that there is a purpose for my life, even though I may not know what it is quite yet. This book is a must read for athletes and non-athletes alike, you will truly be blown away!

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST read, December 6, 2009
This review is from: Unthinkable (Paperback)
I read this book in one day, and my whole family is reading it. This is one of the most inspiring and convicting books I've ever read. Scott's story captures the reader from the first page, and you literally cannot put it down. I laughed and cried throughout. I connected with Scott so many times, being at many of his triathlons -- watching how he got stronger and stronger, but never knowing what he truly went through to get there.

But the strongest connection I felt is that of being a Christian and loving the Lord more than anything else. I had some tears in my eyes as I read what Scott has gone through in his life...a very hard road to discover God's plan for him. Scott, you have His "wings of eagles" now and are making an impact and a difference for so many people.

By several copies of this book -- one for yourself and others to give as gifts. Your friends will thank you!

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Story of Determination, December 1, 2009
By
This review is from: Unthinkable (Paperback)
Don't pass this book up, buy it now!! "Unthinkable" is impelling and very well written---a quick read, a must read. Scott's story covers all the emotions. It is sad, depressing, devastating, inspirational, motivating, hopeful, joyful, spiritual and triumphant. Having a daughter who has finished two Ironman's, I can fully appreciate the sacrifice, pain, struggle, joy and accomplishment that Ironmen encounter along their journey. My wife and I were at Coeur d'Alene in 2007 to cheer on our daughter at her first Ironman, and we saw Scott pass by as a swimmer, as a biker, and as a runner. We did know Scott's story then, but were so pleased to learn that he finished at Kona, for truly, Scott Rigsby is an Ironman, an incredible Ironman. Thank you, Scott, for sharing your full story with the rest of us and thank you for your on-going service and encouragement to others. You are an inspiration to us all.
