5.0 out of 5 stars A great mystery in my top three series, December 8, 1999
This review is from: Until We Meet Again (Paperback)
Assistant District Attorney Kathryn MacKay thinks her boss Harold Benton is a friend and her mentor. She is devastated when he abruptly dies. Dr. Robert Simmons happens to be in Harold's office when the DA suffered his fatal heart attack, but he could not save the man. Shortly afterward, Kate and Robert begin to forge a relationship. However, she ends it when she realizes she may be involved in an investigation of Robert and the medical staff he supervises at the Santa Rita County Department of Public Health.

A couple drives off a cliff in an apparent mutual suicide attempt. The male survives, but the pregnant female dies. As the acting DA, Kathryn considers whether the survivor should be prosecuted. As she ponders what to do, two other pregnant teens kill themselves. The common link is the same public health clinic. Kathy learns that one of the staff allegedly raped one of the victims. As she vows to imprison the culprit, Kathy is unaware that she has been marked for death.

UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN is a great legal thriller due to the humanization of Kathryn that allows readers to see her as a mom, a woman, and an attorney. The story line is multifaceted with many subplots, some seemingly unnecessary, but all tie back to the main theme. Christine McGuire provides sub-genre fans with a fascinating and complex tale that will garner her new readers.

As all of Ms. McGuire's books, I have enjoyed this one very much - Kathryn MacKay's boss and mentor dies from a massive heart attack. Kathryn finds herself romantically involved with a doctor. Pregnant girls are committing suicide. As usually, there are several plots involved. One thing, though, that irritated me a bit was that Kathryn was not with Grantz anymore. I kinda like them together...

4.0 out of 5 stars FINAL ANSWER?, February 7, 2000

This review is from: Until We Meet Again (Paperback)
Easy to figure out the "bad guy" in the beginning. Easy to figure out what he was doing. Take away the simple crime solving, and pay attention to adolescent girls.
