Will Stay With You, Like Your First Lover, Long After the Album Ends,
By
This review is from: Until There's Nothing Left of Us (Audio CD)
While the Chicago based band's star power was evident upon the release of its Atlantic Records debut in 2004 its on this latest album that the group's potential is fully realized. "Until There's Nothing Left of Us" feels like a commercial sold-out concert at a big stadium. It opens with a two minute intro that builds from a heavy/thunderous mix of drums and keyboards to keep the fans in anticipation. Mat Devine's vocals echo across the keyboard on "Believer" while on "Lips Like Morphine" follows up with another hook. They cover Church's "Under the Milky Way" which gives a 1990's era Depeche Mode type of vibe. Just like your first love, this album will ring through your ears long after it ends.

they gave us what we expected....and it was darn fine,

In typical Kill Hannah style, Until there's nothing left layers lyrics that have been described as whiny, self absorbed and formulaic but somehow transcend those adjectives to produce a killer disc. The same dark yet almost bouncy charm their previous disc had holds true on Until there's nothing left of us. The melodies on the disc are catchy, the lyrics substantial; less vapid than the deluge of emo bands out there. Though Kill Hannah fits neatly into the emo thy seem to stand out as a band the other black clad rockers can aspire to-their own style, sound and insight. The single, Lips Like Morphine suggests a sentiment all die hard romantics share-a kiss, a love to knock you off your feet; Romeo died for it and I chance a bet that he would've listened to this song were he still around.
All in all-If you liked their last cd, you're gonna like this one. If you like My Chemical Romance, HIM, NIN, Muse, Hawthorne Heights or Dashboard-you're gonna like this cd.

Take a risk and check them out,

I first heard Kill Hannah on a tour with Clear Static and Shiny Toy Guns earlier this year. I was hooked with the first set I heard from them. (I went on to hear them twice more in the next 3 days.)
I love this album. I expected it to be a little more high energy/fast paced based on the first album, but it's a wonderful compliment. The wonderful intro and outro bookend the album beautifully. Lips Like Morphine could be the song that finally brings them to the top. If you want to hear some great alt rock, with touches of glam and emo thrown in, get this album. And, they tour nearly constantly, so check their websites for a show near you and be sure to see them live. Mat (the singer) has a great stage presence.
