A must, especially for those who appreciate Asian culture!,

I'm a young adult, not an artsy-fartsy kind of guy, and most foreign films are just bizzare... but this movie was very good. If you've seen Dangerous Liasons, you will like this Korean version of the story. Heck, if you're any part Korean like me, you'll enjoy it even more! Most people overlook how Korean society was, since China and Japan overshadow them in history. The way the characters interact with each other, and the cool clothing and atmosphere make for a movie that is both mentally and intellectually stimulating! It has all sorts of elements, mostly drama of course, and will evoke many emotions from amusement to sadness. I feel that most people will find at least one character in this movie with whom they can empathize and become attached to their destiny in the film. For those of you who are "family" oriented, it is pretty racy, so no minors! Give it a chance!

I prefer this movie to the original Dangerous Liaisons for its brilliant colors and seamless flow of the plot. Though simple to the contemporary eyes, it is very refreshing to watch the "old-fashioned" but effective tricks men used 200 years ago to chase women. Compared to the original DL movie, the young actors portray innocence in a much more convincing way, which amplifies their ill fates even more tragically. The dialog is concise and poetic. It accurately reflects the elegance of the aristocrats with the simple humbleness and reservation unique to the Asian culture. I've watched this movie in both English and Chinese subtitles and feel that the Chinese translation depicts the essence slightly better, perhaps because of the closeness of the cultures.

Stunning imagery & great acting,
This review is from: Untold Scandal (DVD)
This movie is incredibly stunning both in acting and imagery. The actors, especially Lee Mi-suk & Bae Yong Joon, give believable & deliciously wicked performances. Not to mention the scenery, full of rich vibrant colors that will take your breath away. It is definitely worth watching. I highly recommend it.

I saw this movie at a film festival and was just floored. It's a shame it didn't have any marketing muscle behind it. The film is a Korean version of "Dangerous Liasons" - just remarkable in how well the writer / director transposes the story from period French society to a Korean one, similiar yet still very distinct and unique to its new setting. Terrific acting and visually quite accomplished. In fact, it was such an accomplished film that I was surprised by both how young and how shy the director was during the Q&A. (Note: I'm not of Korean background - one doesn't need any special knowledge of Korean culture to understand or appreciate this film, though of course, I'm sure such a background would only deepen one's enjoyment.)

If you thought only Malkovich and Close could do these roles, then you need to see this version. There is some difficulty in translating European fencing into oriental swordplay in this film, and the sex scenes are perhaps a little more up-front than in the original, but I was pleasantly surprised at how effective this play was in a Korean court setting.

This is an excellent, EXCELLENT, rendition of the French novel, Dangerous Liasons. The actor is superb in denoting his cynicism, well, all the actors/actresses are superb and the directing even more so. Aside from the story itself, we are presented to early 19th century Korean culture and the strict segregation of the sexes made the plot of the novel/book even more of a challenge. I'm going to buy this movie!

Korean version of "Dangerous Liaisons",

Many, many years ago, I saw "Dangerous Liaisons" with John Malkovich and Glen Close. When I saw this film on shelves, I could not resist to see the Korean version of the story. Needless to say, I was not disappointed at all. I like foreign movies, so subtitles, are never an issue for me. But what really gives this film beauty is wonderful costumes, make up and jewelry that depict the members of the Korean high society froma couple of centuries ago. Visually this film is very pleasing and in spite of the story's original european roots, it manages to keep its own sensuality intact. Every character is carefully developed and plot pretty much stays its course. It is definitely kind of a classic movie that can be told in any culture and still find its audience. Real delight, I strongly recommend it.

I only gave it 5 stars because there are not more stars available but this movie deserves much more than just 5. GORGEOUS, VERY GLAMOROUS AND EXTREMELY SEXY!!!!!!!!!!! In my inexpert eyes it is a MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I got seduced by Cho-won and fell in love with him just like the girl in the movie did and grieved when he died although I am familiar with the story and the fate of the characters from previous movies based on the same novel. I own and adore Stephen Frears Dangerous Liaisons with John Malkovich and Glenn Close that I also recommend if you have not seen it but definitely this Korean version is SUBLIME, UNIQUE and I am madly in love with it!!!! Now I own it!!!!!Untold Scandal
