I was delighted to find this book as it fills a void in the literature on the African media. There has been very little written on the role of business journalism and what has been done starts from the assumption that the press will naturally help promote economic development.
"Untold Stories" includes scholarly pieces on the press, responses from people in the field and practical suggestions as to how African journalists can improve their coverage. One of the chapters I liked the most was the introductory piece by Peter Kareithi which critiques some of the institutional literature on how the African press should develop. He points out the pro-free market bias inherent in much of the advice given to African journalists.
