Stardust Magic,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Untouchable (Audio CD)
What hope did an impressionable 10 1/2 year-old have when "Alvin Stardust" first appeared on Top of the Pops in November 1973? The menacing black leather catsuit and gloves. The rockabilly quiff and huge black sideburns. The sideways lip curl. The patented "drooping-wrist" microphone technique. And a song about loving his "Coo Ca Choo." I didn't quite understand any of it. But I knew it was fantastic. I learned all the words and perfected my off-key impersonation. When the album came out six months later, I saved up my pocket money and bought the LP, too. THE UNTOUCHABLE one of the first albums I ever bought. It seemed such a grown-up thing to do. Until certain older relatives teased me mercilessly about my taste in music and I was shamed into retiring my hairbrush microphone. But now I'm back. It's only 36 years later. But digitally remastered and with an extra bonus track, Alvin sounds as good as ever. And while the liner notes give away many of the secrets behind this perfect glam-rock concoction, the hairbrush microphone still works, and all the Stardust magic is still there.
