Heartpounding, touching, and playful...,
By
This review is from: The Untouchables (1987 Film) (Audio CD)
While it seems an odd cluster of words to describe a score, they fit more times than not. Morricone's score for DePalma's revisionist action melodrama dances around (and through) the bare knuckled action with the ease only a master can have, and every film music fan knows that Morricone is a master. This score gets the heart rate racing (The Strength of the Righteous or Waiting At The Border) and the mouth grinning (Al Capone) or the heart swelling (the End Title theme). Morricone fans will want to have this one.

A Great and Underrated Soundtrack,
By
This review is from: The Untouchables (1987 Film) (Audio CD)
The Untouchables was a spectacular film. It cleaned house at the box office and won Sean Connery his Oscar. It helped establish Kevin Costner as one of the best in Hollywood and the soundtrack is equal to all of those achievements. When people think of Hollywood composers only few come to mind. Obviously John Williams is the best to ever do it and has written some of the most amazing scores ever. There's other popular guys such as Jerry Goldsmith, James Horner, and Danny Elfman. Ennio Morricone score for The Untouchables is as equal or better to some of the names mentioned above. The Untouchables soundtrack does what a soundtrack should do. It compliments the movie very well. Music is an important and often underrated part of cinema. Music makes situations more tense, scarier, funnier, ligtens mood, and brings out action. Ennio Morricones' score does just that. It helps bring the shoot outs better, adds emotions to love scenes with Ness his wife and child, and helps make Al Capone more cocky. It really does the movie well. I play the Trumpet and I love the trumpets in the soundtrack. There is a good mix of music and everything is blended well. Morricone brings an Italian flair to his score and it can be heard in some songs. I love the soundtrack. It is hard to find and I was glad to see that Amazon had it. For any classical music fan or soundtrack fan this is a must. Don't miss out on it.

A fine soundtrack,

No thanks to the unexplainable track sequencing, this soundtrack is really quite amazing! Like all of Morricone's work, the music is an acquired taste, but it is original, captivating, effective, albeit a tad minimal in parts. Surprisingly underrated by the general soundtrack community.

A Fabulous Set of Songs,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Untouchables (1987 Film) (Audio CD)
I'm not a classical music fan. I'm not somebody who studies music indepth. But I think that this album by the established movie music writer Ennio Morricone contains some of the most intriguing pieces of music that I've ever heard. Morricone's music in this album are dramatical as well as spiritual. These songs have the ability to change my mood whether it be sad, pleasant, or heroic. I find that I never grow tired of listening to these fabulous songs.

A great film made even greater with this spectacular soundtrack.
There is one word to describe "The Untouchables" soundtrack composed by Ennio Morricone - divine. Simply divine. All of the tracks on this OST CD are exceptional pieces of music. Think of this masterpiece soundtrack as an art not heard anymore nowadays. Ennio Morricone shows his undisputed skill as a composer and orchestrater of the creme de la creme, the best of the best. From beautiful art pieces as "The Strength of the Righteous" to "Victorious" to "Death Theme", those are pieces of music that any classic music fan, all music fans should enjoy immensely. Bottom line is you should get this. There are no more soundtracks like this one nowadays, so one should cherish the ones that are great, like this piece.

This soundtrack is an all-around great work by Mr Morricone. The main theme is menacing yet very fun to listen to. My personal favorite is Track 2, "Al Capone." It starts out softly, but in the middle, the melody comes in really strong and is backed up by wailing trombones with plunger mutes, which you will recognize immediately if you've seen the movie! Great '20's style jazz. The overall time is a little short for a movie soundtrack, but the great themes make up for it. They are also put in a funny order, with the closer tune first on the CD and the opener smack in the middle. Don't let that stop you, though! This CD rules--if you liked the movie, you'll probably like this as well!

Words can't describe how beautiful this soundtrack is, it is filled with emotional pieces that can reduce you to tears at the right moments, I'm a trumpet player, and I don't offten describe something as beautiful, but this CD is one of the great soundtracks to a movie ever, right up there with Blade Runner, and The Fifth Element.

Wonderful soundtrack that forms the backbone of the classic film. Really good music to have on in the background; very stirring and in some cases very beautiful.
I gave it four out of five stars only because as best I can tell the tracks are out of order, and I'd prefer to hear them in the order they're used in the movie.

Although many people have love or hate feelings towards the 1987 film, I find myself coming back to it again and again, and I don't think it's as much for the performances as much as it is for the soundtrack.
There are few soundtracks, to me, that help define and enhance a film: "The Omen," "Jaws," and others of Morricone's spaghetti westerns. It's his work that truly makes this film what it is: imagine the scene from "Machine Gun Lullaby" WITHOUT the music and it just doesn't work as well. Any other composer just could not have made that scene come together. Another example would be Ness' chase with Nitti. Now imagine that scene with "On The Rooftops." It is just not as suspenseful at all, and without Morricone's soundtrack work, I can't imagine this movie being as entertaining for me as it was. The album is not available for download, but the CD is a wonderful find. Hunt it down if you want some angular soundtrack songs that will take you back to that 1987 film.

I have always loved the movie "The "Untouchables", for reasons that include it was made here in Chicago and I saw a little bit of a short scene being filmed, which was very cool. The music is just beautiful.
