2.0 out of 5 stars Why so Many Typos?
I have this book on Kindle and I am very curious to find out if there are different proofreaders/editors for print vs digital books. I am a new Kindle owner and for the most part I am loving it, but the Kindle version of this book is loaded with spelling and grammatical errors. Is this the case with the print version also? Mad Mary's last named is misspelled so many times...

5.0 out of 5 stars terrific two-part combo, May 27, 2004
This review is from: Unveiling Mary Magdalene: Discover the Truth About a Not-So-Bad Girl of the Bible (Paperback)
?The Story?. On an icy Chicago day, Pastor Jake Stauros of Calvary Fellowship sees the desperate mumbling woman in her Goodwill wardrobe struggling to walk so he offered her help. Mary Margaret Delaney pretends to ignore his kindness and just keeps slipping, and incoherently saying ?Luna?. Jake truly wants to help her, but wonders how to reach Mary Margaret without a miracle as she acts as if demons possess her mind, and soul. Yet with God?s help he has assisted several rag tag muffins now part of the Calvary Fellowship. He will continue to pray for Mary Margaret, show her she is not alone, and optimistically hope she will join them. Mary Margaret?s story is a brilliantly written modern day parable paralleling that of Mary Magdalene so that readers can place a contemporary context on perhaps the bible?s ?baddest girl?.

?The Study?. Will the real Mary Magdalene stand up? Was she a courageous individual who followed Jesus and quickly became more than just a believer, but the person who was honored with being the first to see his reappearance? Was she a prostitute, Jesus? earthly lover or was that bad PR by a male dominated medieval church? Was she possessed by demons? Liz Curtis Higgs answers all the above and more with a thought provoking, well researched look at the New Testament. Using specific references that are easy to follow, Ms. Higgs furbishes a powerful intriguing case of who was the real Mary Magdalene.

UNVEILING MARY MAGDALENE is a terrific two-part combo that provides a wonderful novelette with an insightful biblical study that enables the audience to come away with a full understanding of one of the bible?s ?goodest? girls.

5.0 out of 5 stars A dose of encouraging reality, January 11, 2007
This review is from: Unveiling Mary Magdalene: Discover the Truth About a Not-So-Bad Girl of the Bible (Paperback)
Wow! This book is fabulous. Written with typical Liz humor and deep insight, this book is a must for anyone who wants to really understand Mary Magdalene. Liz lets us know why most of our perceptions about Mary Magdalene are erroneous. She also has that wonderful ability to modernize the story for us. We see a fictional modern woman and situation juxtaposed against the scriptural Mary. This really brings Mary to life. If you've read the DaVinci Code, you'll want to compare the two Marys represented.

I can also recommend Bad Girls of the Bible and Really Bad Girls of the Bible by the same author, who describes herself as a "former bad girl." Funny, moving, and meaningful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovin' Liz, August 2, 2008
By
I bought this book because I love Liz's sense of humor and thought that was what I was buying. I took it on vacation with me and read the novel portion of the book and was pleasantly surprised that it was a well written novel with a very serious side (it made me cry on the airplane). I enjoyed it so much that I am going to suggest it as a book/bible study at church. Liz is a multi-talented sister and I wouldn't hesitate to purchase anything that she wrote.

4.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing View to Mary Magdalene, August 14, 2008

I really enjoyed how Liz Curtis Higgs wrote this book in two separate parts; the first being a fictional story and the second being the study. It helped to develop the relationship between Jesus and Mary M. The Study was super informative as well, however I did feel that she was distracted by tangents that we not completely relevent to Mary's story. Overall it was very informative and enjoyable.

5.0 out of 5 stars enlightening and entertaining, January 15, 2011
This review is from: Unveiling Mary Magdalene: Discover the Truth About a Not-So-Bad Girl of the Bible (Paperback)
Liz Curtis Higgs has a talent; she can make a Bible study fun. The book starts out as a fictional tale based on Mary Magdalene. It is a touching story that is fun to read. The book ends with a fun, in-depth study of Mary Magdalene.

Liz Curtis Higgs discounts the stereotype. People view her as a whore-turned-good. In reality, she was possessed by demons. She describes that in depth in the Bible study section of the book, but it is portrayed so well in the fictional part of the book. The stereotypes also peg her as a young, great-looking woman. She explains at length why she believes that is incorrect.

This is a great book that made me laugh and cry--sometimes at the same time. I now how so much respect for Mary Magdalene. She is a woman to admire.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful read!!, January 7, 2010
This review is from: Unveiling Mary Magdalene: Discover the Truth About a Not-So-Bad Girl of the Bible (Paperback)
This is the first book by Liz Curtis Higgs that I've read but after this - wow! The story surprised me, to say the least. I quickly became attached to the characters and it was the first time in a very long time that even when I read the last line, I didn't want to put the book down. I went back through and re-read some of my favorite parts. Really an excellent read and I can't wait to read the "Bad Girls of The Bible" collection :-)

We are reading this book in a women's small group study. We have read all of the authors' other books in the "Bad Girls of the Bible" series. Her presentation of the story in a modern setting helps us relate to the story. We also appreciate the Biblical research that she includes. We would definitely recommend this book & the authors other books to any woman reader or women's group.
