Editorial Reviews

Review

"After reading the first novella, Unspoken, I could not wait for Unwilling... And if I had to choose a favorite, I would choose this one...  As I was reading, I couldn't help but think of the similarities between this little series and Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series..."
~ A Date With a Book Review

"This is a steamy, exciting Highland read that I again wish there had been more of... You will not regret picking up this book."
~  paranormalromancenovel.com

"Kerrigan Byrne weaves a fantastic story filled with romance, magic, and passion. This is the second book in the Highland Historical Romance and it's every bit as good as the first one! I'm hoping she will continue with this series or possibly write other highlander stories."
~ Historical Fiction Lover's Blog

From the Author

Though my family is predominantly Irish, I've found a myriad of Scottish and Highland blood in my ancestry.  Something about Scotland, particularly the Highlands and their rich and romantic history has always inspired something wild and primal in my heart.

A hearty THANK YOU to everyone for enjoying with me!
Go Raibh Maith Agat!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sexy love story! June 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you love fairytales, you'll love this sexy version of Beauty and the Beast. The Beast is the laird of Castle MacLauchlan, who, on the outside, appears supremely desirable, but a dark Berserker rages inside him. He would be happy remaining single, but the Berserker part of him kisses the beautiful Lindsay, and he will be forever tortured with wanting her if he can't convince her to love him back. This tale has many charming twists and turns as Connor struggles to keep his Berserker at bay while he tries desperately to woo Lindsay. Ms. Byrne has once again transported me to a fascinating, sensual world that I did not want to leave. I finished Unwilling in one sitting, and I'll definitely be watching for more of her stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Scottish berserker and the woman who loves him June 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
"Unwilling" is a paranormal romance set in Scotland in the 1400's. Connor is a berserker, a man who turns murderous when overcome with supernatural strength and speed.

Lord Rory McKay tasks Connor with killing Rory's brother, Angus, who has been murdering and terrorizing Scottish civilians. Connor's berserker ambushes twenty of Angus's men and kills them all, but Angus is not among them. Instead, he finds Lindsay, the young woman betrothed to Angus, and the berserker claims her for his mate.

Some of the sex scene descriptions were too flowery for me, like "a wet rush of pure white fire." But these few moments were not enough to detract from an otherwise well-written story. Lindsay is a typical spunky heroine, and while the berserker has determined that Lindsay will be his mate, Connor is not quite so thrilled (at least, initially) to be saddled with this feisty woman.

The romance was sweet, the sex was very hot, and the story was thoroughly enjoyable. I want to read more from this author. I will be snapping up Unspoken (Highland Historical #1), the first novella in this series and the story of Connor's brother, Roderick. Roderick was featured prominently in Unwilling, and he's more the type of romance hero I prefer: more light-hearted and fun-loving than tortured and stoic.

5.0 out of 5 stars ANOTHER BIG ONE (FIGURATIVE & LITERAL) June 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the 2nd in a series of brother Berserkers 'we all have a little berserker in us'(the first UNSPOKEN).Move over Lisa,Julie,Karen here comes Kerrigan. All the aforementioned can write a love scene. Well the next generation is always better, and Kerrigan Byrne proves it.The story grabs you from the first page really. Most stories get to the panting and wiggling almost 40% to 50% into the book. Not so with this lady and better yet, SHE GETS IT. SHE REALLY GETS IT. Your at thee scenes and she can get you looking for the towels. YES THAT GOOD. Can not wait for next. She is on autobuy. All hail the next generation of 'A' list authors..The neighbors want a smoke after this. I absolutely recommend this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense all the way, I'm in love with these beasts! October 25, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
OMG Berserkers! An Incredible story, fast-paced, action-packed, filled with sexy berserkers! One thing must be say: there aren't enough berserkers stories...
Where were you all this time Kerrigan Byrne? Thanks to you for this (maybe short, but Oh...!), so good story! I fell in love with Conner just by reading the blurb! This totally my kind of read and I did it in one shot, just to be sure how good it would be until the end :P

I loved Conner's personality and the fact that he cares so much for Lindsay that he prefer to let her be than to hurt her (without keeping a close and open eye on her!). Well, everybody knows that he won't hurt her huh! Lucky girl! Lindsay was an intriguing character, the way she acted with Connor when he's in a Berserker mode, was also kind of ... pervert? Well I don't know how to explain it but I like it!

I didn't read the first book of this series (Unspoken, who seems so intense: Roderick... Ouf! Just the name gives me shivers :P), I got Unwilling free on Amazon a few weeks ago and who says berserkers, a female captive and a hot cover just like Unwilling, means I'm in the front line to get my hands on it! And I wasn't disappointed! You got action, a good plot (nothing I never read before, but enough to keep me reading all night long!), interesting characters, intense exchange between Conner and Lindsay and great scenes description!

This was my first novel by the author Kerrigan Byrne and won't be the last! I'm heading to the first and the third novel of this series, as soon as my TBR pile would allow me to do it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Characters and Romance July 22, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
After reading the first novella, Unspoken, I could not wait for Unwilling. The author had told me this book was different from Unspoken, a little less erotic and a little more fighting. Even with those changes, I loved this book as much as the first. And if I had to choose a favorite, I would choose this one. Maybe it's because I just finished it, I don't know, but I do know I enjoyed the story she told.

This book definitely got in with the action. Immediately you're hooked with the fighting and capture of Lindsay. The pages turned quickly, especially after you meet up with Evelyn and Roderick from book one. I enjoyed these characters appearances and Evelyn again made me laugh. Lindsay was lucky to have Evelyn help her through the beginning and helped her to see what she was faced against.

Now even with the book being a little less erotic and a little more fighting, it did not change the fact that the author can tell a story. As I was reading, I couldn't help but think of the similarities between this little series and Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series. So if you're not sure if you would like that time period, setting, and type of characters, give this little series a try.

More About the Author

Kerrigan's often been heard complaining that she was born to the wrong century. Flowing skirts, coiffed hair, horse drawn carriages, and historic political intrigue is way more her speed. Only everyone who knows her doubts she'd make it without her laptop, Pandora Radio, and - most importantly - the beloved coffee maker/espresso machine.

Though she spends most of her time romanticizing the past, she's spent a great deal of her life exploring all over the Western United States. Having spent the last ten years in Law Enforcement, she's added Mystery/Suspense to the many things she loves to read and write about.

She lives with her husband and three lovely step-daughters at the base of the Rocky Mountains, but dreams of the Pacific coast.
