5.0 out of 5 stars Deep and Peaceful Sleep
After reading Unwinding the Belly, I use the exercises each time I wake up at 3 or 4 am. I have a habit of waking up, thinking about problems, and trying to solve them. I lay there uncomfortable and in my head for 1 or 2 hours. Usually I do not get back to sleep. Now I do the breathing and belly exercises from this book and fall back to sleep quickly and peacefully...

3.0 out of 5 stars Mediocrity is the Word
In search of holistic health and healing, I have read nummerous books on yoga, meditation, self-healing, etc. I found this book to be a bit too simplistic and not very informative. Additionally, it could use a better editor. Overall, not too bad for those new to the holistic approach to self-healing. The diagrams are easy to follow and it's an easy read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Intuitive Unwinding, February 6, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Unwinding the Belly: Healing with Gentle Touch (Paperback)
This is a very practical and simple sounding book, but it offers a profound modality to heal one of the most common ailments of our stressed out lifestyles.. that of our digestive system shutting itself down and literally going into knots. This book teaches very simple techniques to un-knot our very complex visceral systems.

The diagrams are very graphic and useful in understanding the techniques. I highly recommend this book to anyone interetsed in natural healing.

This book is an absolute gem for anyone wanting to learn or to guide others in a process of self knowing and healing. Allison Post and Stephen Cavaliere make their unique approach readily accessible, especially for those who have little or no prior training in body work. The book is well documented with easy to follow instructions, wonderful illustrations, and helpful personal stories. They teach us to be with our bodies in all aspects and help us to look closely and be with those parts of our bodily experience that we might rather avoid. As a healing practitioner I would recommend this book without reservation to my clients. In my own life, being with my body in these new ways has created in me the ability to really notice and experience my body, finding healing and wholeness in the process.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Recommend This Book Highly, August 15, 2007
This review is from: Unwinding the Belly: Healing with Gentle Touch (Paperback)
A friend with lots of experience studying these techniques at the Chi Nei Tsang Institute of Berkeley, gave me some sessions. I was surprised to find a book which shows me how to do this for myself. The book explains everything so clearly and presents practical information. "Unwinding the Belly" is a wonderful title for the book. It is easy for me to store some emotional stress of living in today's world in my body, especially my belly. And it is a good way to work with the body and emotions. I can only speak for myself but this book helps me a lot and continues to do so. It deserves every one of the five stars I gave it for excellent quality and simplicity of use. I intend to make these exercises described in the book part of my daily routine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Help heal your digestive issues...., January 11, 2009

This review is from: Unwinding the Belly: Healing with Gentle Touch (Paperback)
This book is a very easy guide with helpful instructions and diagrams on how to assist your body with the digestive process. The techniques are comfortable, non-evasive and really help you understand how your digestive system is set up. The emphasis is on breathing techniques the allow you to gently massage your colon, spleen, kidneys and liver and how to get breath into places that you probably haven't felt in a while. I've been fortunate to feel the effects within the first few weeks of owning the book.

This book came highly recommended to me. I found it informative and easy to understand, much like the exercises themselves. A slowing down and quiet listening is required for this kind of work to have the simple yet profound impact it is designed to have. Comforting and worth implementing!

I have been waiting for a book like this for a long time and will recommend it to my clients and friends. It is a very useful, hands-on, how-to book about taking charge of your own health.

This book grabbed my attention immediately and was very easy to read. The exercises and self-healing techniques contained within are explained clearly and in a natural voice. The diagrams help to make an already clear book even more clear and useable. It is clear that the authors know their subject well but they don't burden the reader with a lot of technical jargon that will cause confusion.

Reading this book was quite enjoyable. If you have ever been through the run-around with western medicine and are looking for a way to regain your health, or if you are just interested in maintaining your health, this is a great book for you.

allison and stephen gently guide the reader to the understanding that we can know and take care of and heal our own bodies. we learn from this book the importance of this awareness, and that we need not blindly hand ourselves over to health care practitioners, but rather participate in our own health and well being. with their easy going writing style, and the clients' own stories, we learn how pleasureable, relaxing, and rewarding this journey can be.
