5.0 out of 5 stars Good Radio ... Great Price
I picked up a pair of these earlier in year. They perform great. Lack of 38 privacy codes does not hurt performance a bit. Only when channels are completely full(ie..Auburn vs LSU football game) have they ever been needed. At this price they are superb value!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Unwired
Not a bad product, but the technical data claims this item has 38 sub codes, which it seems to not have. Kind of misleading on the technical description.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
They just copied description of 8082 which has privacy codes. I just returned the radios after finding they have no privacy codes. There is much difference between with or without privacy codes.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good value, January 27, 2001

This review is from: Unwired UFR805S 2-Mile 14-Channel FRS Two-Way Radio (Electronics)
Bought a pair of these 8 or 10 months ago. They work fine though mine had a rubber cap on the base that was so loose that it fell off the one my wife was using never again to be seen. Mine stays in the drawer at home now. It's nice to have but falls off. Lousy design and manufacture.

My wife has a problem using it as she doesn't remember NOT to push the buttons with her fingernail. When you do that the button sticks in and has to be hit several times to come out. She's stuck it in the call mode several times and until I've found her and fixed the button it'll continue to transmit forever, driving you nuts.

The UP and DOWN buttons will often jump a couple of channels at a time but for the price what do you expect???

Seems to have a good range and battery life. Thank goodness you can lock the unit so it can't have the channel changed or my wife would never figure it out. It's great when shopping and seems to have a fine range even inside buildings.

You have to figure out how far from your mouth to hold it and how loud to talk. Otherwise it'll overmodulate so badly that it'll be distorted and you can't understand what's being said.

I paid the same after a rebate as the price here and consider it a very good value. I'm buying a pair as a special gift for our grandson as a birthday present in May so he an a neighbor friend a couple of blocks away can use them.

1.0 out of 5 stars don't bother, August 14, 2001

I read a few reviews saything this was a good, inexpensive radio. Had it for a month and finally got a chase to use it. One of the receivers didn't work...and then did work. Now in the third month it's completely dead.

the push to talk button doesn't work well on this unit, causes transmitter to break in and out.

2.0 out of 5 stars breaker breaker ... an understatement, December 8, 2001
By A Customer
I've owned these FRS radios for less than 6 months and they have had to be sent in for repair of the radio electronics twice. Also, the cover which holds the batteries in is constantly falling off. When they are working, they work fine. The channel lock feature is nice, as is the button which allows you to listen when the incoming signal is not strong enough to be detected. If you're looking for something reliable, you may want to consider others.

These radios looked and sounded good but they were anything but one of mine flat out died in two months but of coarse that is out of warenty i agree with other people about the misleading tecnecal infromation and i would perswade all other buyers to try the "Cobra" brand. HINT: with all of these different kinds buy rechargable batterys also.

3.0 out of 5 stars Whats my name?, December 27, 2001

Overall, I like this product. I have tried it both inside and outside of the house and on the road. I guess I was hoping for a little more range out of it. They are pretty lightweight and the looks arn't bad. I couldn't quite get the 2 miles range that it says it has. But hey for this price you can't beat em'. They are simple and easy to use, a good buy. It was cool

2.0 out of 5 stars Read the reveiws before you buy, July 2, 2001

I didn't read the review until after I bought one. They don't have the privacy channels, channel scan or VOX that the screen originally said. Also the "up to 2 miles" range has a useful range of closer to 1/2 mile with fresh batteries. It is OK for around the house and maybe the mall but don't expect too much at the amusement park. Without the extra privacy channels you will get many people on the 14 channels.

Once again, Read the reviews before you buy.
