5.0 out of 5 stars Playback problems may be encountered on some equipment
"Playback problems may be encountered on some equipment"... that warning from the back of the jewel case just about sums it up. This disc is "Copy Controlled" which means that errors are intentionally encoded onto the disc to make it difficult to copy. 3.0 out of 5 stars great with a few choice....
Up & Coming is a great CD, obviously minus the few horribly written repetitive songs that seem to never end or even end too soon. Tracks like Reality, How Do You Feel, Thank Me Please and World Came Undone are great. But I do have to say that songs like, I Don't Owe You Nothing (can we say rip off of I Don't Owe You Anything?) and Going Down In Flames are bad choices...

"Playback problems may be encountered on some equipment"... that warning from the back of the jewel case just about sums it up. This disc is "Copy Controlled" which means that errors are intentionally encoded onto the disc to make it difficult to copy. However, these errors can cause problems for legitimate users who may not be able to play it in some CD players. This also affects the error correction on the disc which could make it more susceptible to skipping if it gets scratched than a normal CD.

You might notice that no where on the disc's package is the "Compact Disc Digital Audio" logo that is on other CDs. That's because this disc doesn't conform to the standards of a genuine Compact Disc. Discs with the logo follow standards that allow them to be played in all players that also display the logo. In other words, this is not a real CD. It's just a disc that happens to be close enough to a CD to work in a lot of CD players.

The copy protection used on this disc is made by Macrovision and is called Cactus Data Shield 200 (CDS-200).

If you try to play this disc on a computer, you will not be able to use Windows Media Player or whatever player you usually use to listen to CDs. When you insert the disc, a player will be installed that will allow you to play a lower quality, compressed version of the songs on the disc, you will not be getting full, CD quality sound. Also, you will not be able to rip this disc into iTunes to be able to play it on an iPod.

I'm sure anyone buying this disc is a huge Moffatts/Hidell/Same Same fan, so they won't really care about the copy protection. I just wanted to write this review to make you all aware of the problem.

Now that you know more about the problems with copy protection, you can watch out for it on other CDs you buy, and refuse to buy defective products.

5.0 out of 5 stars I disagree, February 26, 2004
This review is from: Up & Coming (Audio CD)
Well I have to disagree with the reviewer before me. Although I do think some songs sound similar to Submodalities I also think its a great album to relaunch their careers. Besides I have heard that their next album will be very different. Their writing skills are not bad at all, in fact they are very perceptive.
This album rocks. It has a variety of songs to suit everyone. Granted some of the lyrics are in your face but at least its honest-that's why I love it.
BUY THIS ALBUM
BTW Clint is a great lead singer.......

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Step In The Right Direction, January 30, 2004
This review is from: Up & Coming (Audio CD)
Two of the Moffatt boys have done it again! This new album "Up & Coming" is from Hidell, a group made up of Bob & Clint Moffatt- the twin brothers from the best band ever- the Moffatts! The other guys, Shawn & Paul, were in another band called Three Past Midnight. This is an amazing CD with everything from slow, sad ballads such as "She is Gone" to upbeat catchy songs such as their first single "Going Down in Flames". It looks like the boys have done it again & made a smart career move. I definitely urge anyone who even *thought* about buying it to do so- it's more than worth the money!

4.0 out of 5 stars :-), February 2, 2004
This review is from: Up & Coming (Audio CD)
It's great to see Clint and Bob back! :-) I like the sound, and the direction they're going in. Now only if they'd come to the states! I know the band isn't all about the Moffatt brothers, but I don't really know much about the others. I like this CD, and I think if you liked Submodalities, you'll like this album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hidell Rocks....!!!!, December 19, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Up & Coming (Audio CD)
I have listened to this album. I love each tracks on this album. Their music sounds like The Moffatts but still different. Through Hidell debut album, Hidell succed to prove to the world that they're on their way to become a great band ever.

Up & Coming is a great CD, obviously minus the few horribly written repetitive songs that seem to never end or even end too soon. Tracks like Reality, How Do You Feel, Thank Me Please and World Came Undone are great. But I do have to say that songs like, I Don't Owe You Nothing (can we say rip off of I Don't Owe You Anything?) and Going Down In Flames are bad choices to put on an album. As I said earlier, with the exception of a few choice songs, this is a great CD. I do agree with Ruth (the reviewer before me) on the fact that these guys need to work on their writing.
