4.0 out of 5 stars Somebody's Got To Review This Movie
Be forewarned. I brought this DVD unbeknownst that a crisper print was going to be released later in the year. The picture and sound quality are a little muddy on top of that you have to navigate some pretty thick British accents. This is a slightly above average service comedy that most people should enjoy. For those of us who are Peter Sellers afficienados this film...

3.0 out of 5 stars (Really 2.5 Stars) QUITE Disappointing, Given Its Two Leads!
You'd think that a film with the great Peter Sellers and the criminally underrated David Tomlinson would be well worth seeing. Heck, I admit it, I was expecting a forgotten gem of a movie. Instead, I ended up watching an utterly innocuous little comedy that could only be called "mildly diverting" at best. I don't demand that my comedies be gut-busting hysterical every...

The picture and sound quality are a little muddy on top of that you have to navigate some pretty thick British accents. This is a slightly above average service comedy that most people should enjoy. For those of us who are Peter Sellers afficienados this film is indispensible in understanding the trajectory of his career. The film's ostensible star is David Tomlinson but don't kid yourself because this is Sellers' show. As an officer running a swag operation that includes everything from rum to livestock Sellers on a tub in dry dock Sellers is mesmerizing even in a routine venture like this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Naughty Navy !, June 19, 2000
This review is from: Up the Creek [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Here is a typical little English comedy, of those Sellers did before he was an established international star! The film is enjoyable, has a good hearted humour and was loved by the audience (that's why there was a sequel made, but unfortunately without Sellers). And what a brilliant idea-some navy people in an almost forgotten ship, have turned their ship into a very profitable shop! When some official finally visits them, they have to "disguise" their business and keep it going! One of the funniest versions of corruption! sellers' is great, teamed with other well-known English character actors such as Wilfrid Hyde White and David Tomlinson. Recommended!

I don't demand that my comedies be gut-busting hysterical every minute, but aside from a few chuckles here and there, 'Up the Creek' was a pretty boring movie, I'm sad to say.
