5.0 out of 5 stars Up In Flames
I am a fifties guy and a big fan of flames. My daily driver has full length flames and is very kool, if I say so myself. This book is a must for any car guy. The photos are excellent, and the whole book is well worth the price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Up In Flames not a burnout.
I purchased this book primarily for the photos of the paint work and was not disappointed. There is a good variety of impressive looking vehicles well photographed. The text lets the reader down slightly. The history is informative and hits the main points but is a bit dry. The bios seem to have quite a bit of detail for brief articles but are formulaic and read as if...

5.0 out of 5 stars Flame lovers and car aficionados will just EAT THIS UP!, July 6, 2006
This review is from: Up in Flames: The Art of Flame Painting (Hardcover)
If the history of world civilization had been written with such love and skill, and accompanied by photographs that were such a feast for the eyes, no one would have fallen asleep in class and everyone would know everything about the history of world civilization. In writing "Up in Flames", Tim Phelps has authored a glowing, stellar account of this head-turning art form that will forever morph grownups into teenagers again. Anyone whose eye was ever caught by a flamed tail fin will find themselves grateful that Tim still plays with cars. Tim and Paul: we in the Motor City salute you!

5.0 out of 5 stars I went up, in flames..., September 20, 2006
This review is from: Up in Flames: The Art of Flame Painting (Hardcover)
Although I was slightly... worried, u know.. "another" book.. expecting some lousy pictures, old cars, outdated, still.. I love flames, and designs, so.. such a price wouldn't be a major loss anyway.
The book arrived three days later (thanks for the fast shipping), and.. it was a great surprise.
Absolutely beautiful pictures.. no wait.. amazing pictures, great stories, amazing cars (wanna see more..), I mean.. u guys like flames, hot rods, Kulture..??? just go for it, great book, nothing other than compliments to write about.
Thanks to the authors, photographers, publishers, and.. the artists.
PS: gonna start my first real flame-job....

5.0 out of 5 stars great book, January 20, 2012
This review is from: Up in Flames: The Art of Flame Painting (Hardcover)
this is a great book for anyone looking for quality photos, background stories, and inspiration for one of your own future paint jobs. i did not purchase this book from here but did recieve one from Cary Greenwood himself at or prior to release of this book. i used to work with Cary and let me tell you, these guys are truly the best at what they did. the text in the book cant compare to the stories i was told and experiences i had while working and hanging out with Cary before he passed away. i encourage you to buy one if you are an enthusiast at all, as this is truly a one of a kind book. i myself may purchase another for personal reasons

3.0 out of 5 stars Up In Flames not a burnout., April 7, 2011
This review is from: Up in Flames: The Art of Flame Painting (Hardcover)
I purchased this book primarily for the photos of the paint work and was not disappointed. There is a good variety of impressive looking vehicles well photographed. The text lets the reader down slightly. The history is informative and hits the main points but is a bit dry. The bios seem to have quite a bit of detail for brief articles but are formulaic and read as if created with a computer template. If you are looking for ideas for a project car or bike this book contains a wealth of ideas and inspiration. If you are into automotive history this is a good addition to your collection. If you are looking for a good read, keep looking.

Happy with the book. Informative as well as historical, documents a lot of the roots of vehicle flaming, along with the best flamers in the country, and their projects that were chosen for the book content.

5.0 out of 5 stars These are gorgeous photos and inspirational insights, November 6, 2006
This review is from: Up in Flames: The Art of Flame Painting (Hardcover)
Flame painting hot rods is a surprisingly old art: some fifty years old - but it's not diminished during that time, and UP IN FLAMES; THE ART OF FLAME PAINTING will reach any who are interested in the specifics of flame painters, pinstripers, and others. Color photos of designs and designers pack profiles of some eighteen contemporary artists, covering the style, career and craft of flame painting past and present. These are gorgeous photos and inspirational insights any crafter will appreciate - car painters, in particular.
