5.0 out of 5 stars Best album of "the poets" , August 25, 2004
By J. H. Infante (Guadalajara, Ja, Mex) - See all my reviews
The canadian poets have offered to us their best album "up to here" with their all time classic "New Orleans is sinking", great rock n roll with heavy blues and southern rythms, amazing style a very defined personality , Mr Gordon Downie is a genious also a man with a great inspiration and artistic sensibility, we need more songwritters like him, The Tragically Hip is also a very united band, members have remain the same for over 20 years they havent fall into the trap of fame and their style doesnt change for commercial success , they feel happy with their legion of die hard fans like me that will always love the hip as our little selfish secret

5.0 out of 5 stars instantly transformed, June 4, 2006
I saw the hip , in 90 or 91 , at the metropolis in harrisburg pa, after hearing airplay of "New Orleans is sinking".... they were the opening act for Eric Johnson"...( another sterling canadian product; along with Rush, Cowboy Junkies, and the RHEOSTATICS ( whom after 16 years of listening to the HIP I find it astronomically impossible to have missed for this long))... 2006 first listen... let's just say I was instantly transormed....best tracks on Up to Here... NO is sinking, Boots or Hearts, Trickle Down... hey!!! check out Rheos Whale Music tracks...1,2,3,9,10,17

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this CD, January 6, 2006
By Christopher Hivner (Dallastown, PA USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
One of the best rock n' roll CDs there is. When I heard "New Orleans is Sinking" for the first time I waited for the Hip to break big in the U.S. I still don't know why that didn't happen, but after ten years plus, Up to Here has lost none of its luster. A marvelous combination of straight ahead bluesy rock with sly, heartfelt lyrics. Gord Downie's interesting vocal style blends perfectly with a rambling, imprecise guitar sound. "New Orleans is Sinking" is still one of my all-time favorite songs and I also particularly like "Blow at High Dough", "I'll Believe in You (or I'll Be Leaving You)" and the ballad "38 Years Old", but there isn't a bad song on the CD. I'm glad my local rock station played these guys for a few weeks all those years ago or I would never have heard of them and missed out on this great CD.

These guys are great, original, great guitar licks. New Orleans is Sinking is a great foot stomper and hip mover. I loved the whole album form beginning to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars When being a rock band was interesting enough...
Before TTH got all experimental and moody on records like "Day For Night" they sounded more like a shoot-from-the-hip southern rock band.

And that was okay. Read more
