It's just a really good book about life in general and especially the way we feel about being Up North.

Great collection of short stories describing the people, country and wildlife of Minnesota's Boundary Waters area grouped by season. For those outdoor enthusiasts that are familiar with this country, this book provides a nostalgic perspective of what its like to live in the North Country or "Up North" as the title implies. Very easy and enjoyable read!

I purchased this book for my husband who has been fishing "up north" for over 60 years. He truly enjoyed the book and has passed it on to our son, an avid outdoorsman. Sam Cook is an excellent writer.

This is one of the best books I've read in a long time about going up north. Fish, hunting, camping, and meeting other people are the best settings in the book. The book makes you feel like your up in the wilderness hunting or on the lake fishing.

I can see quite clearly what Sam Cook is aspiring to here and that is the only reason I gave even two stars. In my opinion he fails to evoke the true feeling of this wonderful part of the country. He also has the irritating habit of refering to himself as "he" or "the man". People interested in the north woods will be better served by reading Sigurd Olson.
