Crazy mixes work wonders,

This review is from: Up (Audio CD)
The blue cd is hysterical. Imagine your standard Shania vocal track laid over a Bollywood backing track. Strangely enough, it works, and it works extremely well. Songs that are trite and annoying on the green cd (country) shine on the blue cd. Country music is stagnating, especially its big stars. Kudos to Shania for taking a chance and trying something completely different and unexpected. The best song is Up!, with its crazy sitar intro and swooping string section.

Shania Twain's Up! is definitly worth checking out!,

UP! is an awesome cd and is definitly worth checking out. Shania made a total of three different versions of this album for her all of her fans to enjoy. This version of UP! is the international version which contains the Red and the Blue discs. The Red disc is made up of the the pop versions of Shania's songs which you have probably heard on the radio, while the Blue disc has the world/international versions which have an Eastern sound to them. I prefer the Red disc to the Blue one, but I have to say that there are some really good versions of the songs UP!, I'm Gonna Get You Good, and Ka Ching on the Blue disc. Overall I think that this set is worth buying, especially if you are a Shania Twain fan. If you are not sure about the international version of UP! I would recommend the domestic version which includes the Green disc, it has a more acoustic country sound to it.

Incredible artist,

I was urged to write this review when I read another review posted. This is my favorite CD out of all that I own. I'm a musical person myself and I find the songs on UP! to be incredible. She has her serious songs like She's Not Just A Pretty Face and When You Kiss Me and then she has her playful songs like Waiter! Bring Me Some Water! and UP! I have yet to find a more well rounded artist in term of lyrics and voice. I can't say enough about Shania Twain and this CD. If you are a fan of Shania at all, then this is a must have.

Shania Twain's UP! Aussie Version.,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Up (Audio CD)
Ok let me start off saying that Shania is an ok singer I mean she is no Faith Hill or Mariah Carey but she is a decent singer and her songs are fun and up beat.I do have the USA cd of UP! and the Aussie version by far my favorite is the Aussie version because it has the Blue cd which in my opion has a dance feel to it.If you have the USA verison you know it has the Country and Pop verison's this cd contains the pop Verison's as well.Another thing to keep in mind is that the Japan verison is just like the Aussie verison.I do hope that I did not affend anyone about what I said about Shania's vocal abitly I was only telling the truth. But if I had than I am truly sorry!!!! I to am a Shania fan. Please take care and God Bless You!!!!!!

Curry flavor! Cheesy goodness!,
This review is from: Up (Audio CD)
A curiosity for world music aficianados and a must for serious Shania fans, this album is worth owning for the kitsch value alone. With sitars and tablas adorning insanely catchy melodies and relentlessly upbeat lyrics, it's a Bollywood soundtrack from an alternate dimension. Several songs much blander in their pop and country incarnations benefit greatly from the Indian treatment. "I'm Jealous" is lovely and the otherwise awful "She's Not Just A Pretty Face" gains an unexpected poignancy. There are also splashes of dub reggae, latin guitar flourishes, even some Celtic-sounding tin whistle and fiddle on "(Wanna Get To Know You) That Good!". Overall, a deliciously guilty pleasure.

Not For the Narrowminded people - The word is UP!,
By Dejan Dozic "Double D" (Malmoe, Sweden) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Up (Audio CD)
This is something new and as always there are conservatists that just must give a bad feedback - typical narrowminded people. I must say this box is a fresh wind that might open UP doors Internationally for Country music OUTSIDE USA, I come from Sweden I am used to the dance mixes of "That don't impress me much" and frankly that song was the only one aired at commercial radio stations when "Come On Over" album made a breakthrough in Europe. Even if ALL songs ARE GREAT. I listened to the Country CD and thought well that can be played at home when one reads a book or just sits outside on a warm hot summer night... the Pop album at parties... and the International only to SPICE things UP with some INDY type of sounds. Rating the albums individiually I find the Pop album excellent then the Country one 2nd BUT only a few tracks of the "Indy" sound to fit my taste. Next time maybe a warning label for narrowminded people. Hope this helped a bit.

ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!,

I absolutely LOVE album! First, the song Up! is perfect for when you are feeling down. We all need something besides chocolate, exercise, and shopping to get our spirits up. This song really does do a lot for me when I am in the gutter. It does make me jumping all happy and dancing, plus it makes me realize that I am not the only one who feels in the dumps sometimes. Much better than medication, I tell ya!With I'm Gonna Getcha Good, it expresses a woman with CONFIDENCE which is very rare in music today. Hasn't every woman wanted to get a man or vice versa, etc. and had the lyrics to these songs in your head...but didn't quite know what you were experiencing in words? This song does that for me. I love it. Plus, it's upbeat and just another positive song that I love. Next, for She's Not Just a Pretty Face, absolutely love the idea that a woman can be anything she puts her mind to...and in this song, you actually picture a woman being accepted doing any job that she wants to. Love it. This song is way ahead of it's time, but excellent if you have a daughter or sister that you want to get educated so that she doesn't get pushed around in life. It tells her that you can be anything you want. Don't let being a woman hold you back. I'll skip to Ain't No Particular Way. Wonderful tune. Perfect for after a breakup with a significant other. Tells you the truth, that love is just around the corner...for everybody...not just the lucky. This song will cut your bitter period in half, at least! Nah! Perfect song for that significant other that just doesn't see how good you really are. Need someone to cheer for you during those bad times. C'est La Vie is good for those Monday mornings when you have to get back to your job, 8-6, M-F...it expresses exactly how I feel when I go to work, but it makes me realize that I am not alone and the song tells me that it's ok to feel that way, you have to do what you have to do to pay those bills. Somehow makes the experience much more manageable. Ka-Ching! The world revolves around money...it's not so easy to keep up sometimes. Need I say more? What A Way to Wanna Be! Perfect for those who constantly find themselves short of looking like a Victorias Secret model. The message generally is: don't become annorexic or bilemic just for your looks. This song can reallllly save a life, I firmly believe. If Shania inspires one person in this world to not throw themselves into eating disorders because of magazine covers, in which I believe it will do, then what more can I say. The song is better than anything I can put into words. I'm Not in the Mood to Say No! How many times do you find yourself craving for more and more and more to learn, do, experience, and jump into? It seems like you can't sit still because you want to experience EVERYTHING life has to offer...that's what this song's about. This song has actually increased my energy level and helped me become more ambitious in my hobbies...it made me turn that blind eye staring at my true passions in life and made me look dead onto what I love to do. It made me realize that I CAN do it...whether it be learning guitar, exercising, taking vocal lessons, taking Spanish and/or French, taking that art class, etc....just jump right in and jam it! I don't know how Shania does it, but she always has taken my life's experiences and put them right into song...no other artist does this for me...it's absolutely amazing songwriting and another fantastic album!

I'm goin' Up!,

This review is from: Up (Audio CD)
What can I say? This is a fantastic album! From the very first song "Up!", right down to track number 19 "When you kiss me."As I'm from the UK, I got the privalage of listening to the Red and Blue mixes of Up!, Red being the electric pop, Blue the World/dance mixes. Consumers in the U.S.A will get to listen to the Green Country mix. When I first listened to Up!, both red and blue mixes, honestly, I was slightly disappointed. Gone were the tender ballads from "Come on Over", and dance inspired country tracks. It their place, was a collection of happy, almost corny songs with some inane lyrics. But then, it dawned on me, the title track "Up!" is exactly what it says, a great, feel good album. People were expecting a lot from this album, mostly I think, "Come on Over" mark two, and that's not what you get. Instead you get great fantastic feel-good music, that despite, the sometimes silly lyrics, you find yourself singing along to. Please don't expect "Come on Over", because that's not what you're going to get. With the Red mix, you get some rocky sounding pop mixes, which work great with songs like "I'm gonna getcha good" and "Thank you Baby! (for making someday come so soon), and then the Blue world mix, which give you a real dance vibe with songs like "Up!" and "Nah!". All in all, I think there's something for everyone, pop, country and dance fans alike. My personal favourites from the album are "Up!", "I'm gonna getcha good!", "She's not just a pretty face," "Forever and for always", "It only hurts when I'm breathing" "Nah!" "C'est la vie" "Ka-ching!" "Thank you baby (for making someday come so soon)" "What a way to wanna be!" "I'm not in the mood (to say no!)" "In my car (I'll be the driver)" Really worth the listen, I hope you enjoy this album as much as I did! |
