May-ling: Doppelganger, Dragon Mate, Demon Consort and now a dragon heart vessel..., October 7, 2008
This review is from: Up in Smoke (Silver Dragons, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Up in Smoke is the second book in the new silver dragon series. It parallels Aisling's novels wonderfully, yet May stands on her own and her story is delightfully funny and completely different. She has to contend with so many people and beings wanting something from her.
The only reason Magoth wants her as a consort is to have access to the mortal world to create mayhem, destruction blah blah blah. Gabriel is fighting to keep May by his side, and all the dragons are trying to figure out who is the real Blue Wyvern Fiat or Bastion, as well as whether or not the Black dragons are their own Sept, and if so what will happen to the Silver Sept who used to be a part of the Black Sept.
As if that wasn't bad Cyrene is convinced she's Kostya's mate, the only reason she can't hold his fire is he isn't officially recognized.... right... and no one wants to break the news to a crazy Naiad who just lost her job as a protector of her spring and lost her common sense in order to create her Doppelganger May. May now has to talk to Neptune (that's right the Roman God) to petition for Cy's job back. Did I mention the one dragon who everyone though Kostya had killed is running around in the shadow world, Baltic.
This story is definitely action packed and a great follow up story. I love Gabriel but every time Aisling and Drake are mentioned I keep my fingers crossed that Katie MacAlister is writing their continued story quickly. All in all I can't wait for the third.

This is book 2. Good story, no resolution yet, October 21, 2008
This review is from: Up in Smoke (Silver Dragons, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
I enjoyed the story and tend to buy any and all of Katie MacAlister's books because they are engaging, humorous and deliciously, sinfully sexy in the male leads.
This is book 2 of the Silver Dragons series (book 1 is Playing with Fire (Silver Dragons, Book 1)). I love the character, May and her sexy Gabriel but I was disappointed that nothing got done in this story. There were several issues to deal with: Magoth and his evil intents that were never brought to light; Cyrene and her poluted "pool"; the mysterious emergence of a dragon in the shadow world; not even Aisling having her baby! I feel like we did a lot of running around without really getting anywhere. I'm still looking forward to the next book, but I think some of my enthusiasm has been regretfully doused.

all smoke, no resolution, January 22, 2009
This review is from: Up in Smoke (Silver Dragons, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is book #2 in the 'silver dragons' series, book #6 total if you count the four green dragon/aisling grey novels. This is important to know going in- because if you haven't read up you will probably won't be satisfied.
Ok, so I really like Katie MacAlister's dragon series, and the story of the silver dragons is getting good and interesting. It's fun to see a different perspective and a very different heroine. I like May a lot- I see great things happening in her future in this series. I think.
So here's my problem with this book- there are a lot of plot lines, interesting characters, and great subjects working up... but damn it nothing is resolved. Nothing is completed, finalized, and there's no sense of close of an adventure at the end. This is what I'd call a bridge book. My bet is that #3 in this silver dragon series will rock hard core, and if you're a fan of the series it's worth reading to keep up on all the happenings.
I'm trusting Katie is going somewhere good with all this... guess I'll have to wait and see!
