Up in Smoke is the second book in the new silver dragon series. It parallels Aisling's novels wonderfully, yet May stands on her own and her story is delightfully funny and completely different. She has to contend with so many people and beings wanting something from her.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is book 2. Good story, no resolution yet
I enjoyed the story and tend to buy any and all of Katie MacAlister's books because they are engaging, humorous and deliciously, sinfully sexy in the male leads.

This is book 2 of the Silver Dragons series (book 1 is Playing with Fire (Silver Dragons, Book 1)). I love the character, May and her sexy Gabriel but I was disappointed that nothing got done in...

4.0 out of 5 stars May-ling: Doppelganger, Dragon Mate, Demon Consort and now a dragon heart vessel..., October 7, 2008
This review is from: Up in Smoke (Silver Dragons, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Up in Smoke is the second book in the new silver dragon series. It parallels Aisling's novels wonderfully, yet May stands on her own and her story is delightfully funny and completely different. She has to contend with so many people and beings wanting something from her.

The only reason Magoth wants her as a consort is to have access to the mortal world to create mayhem, destruction blah blah blah. Gabriel is fighting to keep May by his side, and all the dragons are trying to figure out who is the real Blue Wyvern Fiat or Bastion, as well as whether or not the Black dragons are their own Sept, and if so what will happen to the Silver Sept who used to be a part of the Black Sept.

As if that wasn't bad Cyrene is convinced she's Kostya's mate, the only reason she can't hold his fire is he isn't officially recognized.... right... and no one wants to break the news to a crazy Naiad who just lost her job as a protector of her spring and lost her common sense in order to create her Doppelganger May. May now has to talk to Neptune (that's right the Roman God) to petition for Cy's job back. Did I mention the one dragon who everyone though Kostya had killed is running around in the shadow world, Baltic.

This story is definitely action packed and a great follow up story. I love Gabriel but every time Aisling and Drake are mentioned I keep my fingers crossed that Katie MacAlister is writing their continued story quickly. All in all I can't wait for the third.

This is book 2 of the Silver Dragons series (book 1 is Playing with Fire (Silver Dragons, Book 1)). I love the character, May and her sexy Gabriel but I was disappointed that nothing got done in this story. There were several issues to deal with: Magoth and his evil intents that were never brought to light; Cyrene and her poluted "pool"; the mysterious emergence of a dragon in the shadow world; not even Aisling having her baby! I feel like we did a lot of running around without really getting anywhere. I'm still looking forward to the next book, but I think some of my enthusiasm has been regretfully doused.

3.0 out of 5 stars all smoke, no resolution, January 22, 2009
This review is from: Up in Smoke (Silver Dragons, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is book #2 in the 'silver dragons' series, book #6 total if you count the four green dragon/aisling grey novels. This is important to know going in- because if you haven't read up you will probably won't be satisfied.

Ok, so I really like Katie MacAlister's dragon series, and the story of the silver dragons is getting good and interesting. It's fun to see a different perspective and a very different heroine. I like May a lot- I see great things happening in her future in this series. I think.

So here's my problem with this book- there are a lot of plot lines, interesting characters, and great subjects working up... but damn it nothing is resolved. Nothing is completed, finalized, and there's no sense of close of an adventure at the end. This is what I'd call a bridge book. My bet is that #3 in this silver dragon series will rock hard core, and if you're a fan of the series it's worth reading to keep up on all the happenings.

I'm trusting Katie is going somewhere good with all this... guess I'll have to wait and see!

4.0 out of 5 stars Silver Dragons Novels, October 4, 2009

Katie MacAlister is superbly imaginative. Her worlds are unlike any others. My favorite part of her books are her unlikely heroines. They are all overweight and over the age of thirty. (Thank you Katie!) Katie proves to us all that you don't have to be nineteen and a size one to get a HEA. I recommend all of Katie's books very highly. They are all light and funny and the kind of material you get lost in. Page turners form beginning to end.

2.0 out of 5 stars pffft!!!!, January 2, 2009

Not as good as the other series. MacAlister tries to accomplish the same as all the others by having the same type of characters play the same type of parts only with a twin playing the part of the demon dog. The plot was slow and lacking and after reading it I'm not even sure what the main plot was. Apparently, May is stuck with a piece of a demon heart in her and has to retrieve all the pieces if she wants to not be changed into a dragon. I felt like this was thrown in as an afterthought halfway through the novel. I'm not sure if MacAlister even had a plot in mind when she was writing the novel.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Struggle to a Poor Finish, December 30, 2008

This review is from: Up in Smoke (Silver Dragons, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Not as funny or action-packed as the green dragon stories, the silver dragon series seems to drag out the relationship and the sex between our heroes May, doppleganger, dragon-mate, and vessel of the dragon heart shard, and her mate Gabriel, silver dragon wyvern. There's potential for mayhem and conflict with a sideline fight for control of the red dragons, the entre of demon lord and May's consort Magoth back into the modern world, and the mysterious reappearance of a long-dead legendary wyvern. With all this to work with, I was astonished to realize I had turned 20 pages at one point and absolutely nothing happened. I persevered and just started flipping past the pages where May and Gabriel are at it again or trying not to go at it again, hoping for some plot development. And... Drat, the book ends, nothing resolved, clearly a set up for the sequel, making this a paltry, unsatisfying chapter in a larger story. I'm done with this series.

This series just isn't as interesting or funny as the Green Dragon series.
Has a bit of action but just can't get into like I did with Green Dragon series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smoking Hot Dragons!!!!, January 16, 2012
This review is from: Up in Smoke (Silver Dragons, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
I love the Silver dragons series, I love the Aisling Grey with the green wayverns as well. I love her book so much I wish she would continue with the Dragon series. If you haven't started reading these books then you need to start from the begining with " You Slay Me". One of the best series I've ever read!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good..., September 21, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I'm not sure what the previous reviewer was referring to but I purchased this on Kindle and it was just fine and in order (perhaps they went back and corrected it within the last few years). My only complaint of the book is that there was a bit too much going on as is common for this author. I mean, really, how much can one girl take? Is it necessary that your main character has to deal with being bound to a demon lord, being forced into being said demon lord's consort, being a wyvern's mate, breaking a rival wyvern away from the imprisonment of the reigning prince of Abaddon... all on top of dealing with your dizzy twin sister and the various problems she manages to get herself into? Granted, May is not half as annoying as Aisling but she seems to have the same penchant for creating problems.

Smooth transaction, ordered two books from this seller, received both together in better condition that I expected and in a timely manor especially with the holiday and severe weather in the area. Thank you so much and hopefully will be able to order from you again!
