5 Stars for Sure!!,

This review is from: Up at the Villa: Travels with My Husband (Paperback)
A truly lovely book and wonderful read. The illustrations, photos, poems, recipes, Italian language and restaurant guide.....all very helpful and beautifully done. I LOVED the poems and vignettes that went along with the adventures shared with Tim. I plan to use it as my guide on our next trip and to look beyond the "touristy' things to do. I laughed right out loud, sighed, smiled regularly and savored the contents. Hats off Linda Dini Jenkins!

UP AT THE VILLA: TRAVELS WITH MY HUSBAND is a humorous travelogue with poetry and recipes sprinkled throughout. Linda Jenkins writes about her travels with her husband, not only to Italy but to other regions also. She writes in a style that makes reading the book east and fun. After reading this book, it made me want to go out and travel more with my wife!

This review will be somewhat slanted in that I know Linda. She and Tim are good friends of my brother, Jim, whom she mentions on pg. 124 and who gave me this book for a gift. It is truly a special book, just as Linda is a special person with an open heart and a keen mind. Knowing her or not would not change how much I have enjoyed each moment along with her on her journeys through this relaxing and fun read. Hi, Linda and thanks!

When Linda Jenkins tells a story, it feels like you are part of the journey. Her description of her travels with her husband, Tim and their travelling companions are very vivid but easy to read. Because she has an open mind, she always finds something humorous in things new or unknown to her and is written without prejudice. Her poetry is like art. It reads like prose but is written in stanzas like a song. It is beautiful! My husband and I found great pleasure in reading her journeys.

Up at the Villa: Travels With My Husband,

As a traveler to Italy, these stories really resonated with me. At the same time, Jenkins has opened another world of possibilities to me. She is clearly willing to go off the beaten path--insipring to say the least-- and can find adventure in the most unusual places--like fish markets and lace museums. She also demonstrates how traveling with others--even those quite different from oneself--can provide a window into one's own heart and spirit. I found it to be a pretty book as well--beautifully designed and illustrated. And the pictures make me long for my next trip--to anywhere!

Up at the Villa is part travel journal, part cookbook (yes, there are recipes!) and part poetry book. There are even a few travel tips and language guides. It is just the kind of book I love because you never get bored reading it. Linda Dini Jenkins has done a superb job of capturing the joy of traveling whether it is a day trip or a two week adventure in Italy.

Up at the Villa: Travels with My Husband
It is filled with useful facts, colorful descriptions of the people, sights, sounds of Italy, and even recipes, though I dont recommend the garden snails. The travel adventures shared by the author and her effervescent hubsand is one of the best gifts offered to readers married and single alike. This book is a joy to read. |
