Based on the Disney - Pixar animated feature of the same name, Up The Video Game takes players on the Xbox 360 on an exotic adventure with Carl Fredricksen and his young sidekick, Wilderness Explorer Russell, as they set off on a wild journey through the undiscovered jungles of South America. Players will be able to experience all four main characters from the movie -- Carl, Russell, Dug the lovable dog or Kevin the prehistoric bird -- and will enjoy the action both in a single player campaign and with friends via the game's 2-4 player multiplayer support.

Playable Characters and Storyline

Carl from 'UP' The Video Game Carl
Carl Fredricksen is not your average hero. He's a retired balloon salesman, who is forced to leave the house he and his wife built together. But instead of moving into an old folks home, Carl takes action. He ties thousands of balloons to the roof, lifts the house into the air and sets off for South America, fulfilling the promise he made to his wife years before. However, Carl's plan is challenged by the discovery of a stowaway, the optimistic, overly eager Russell. Carl's journey tests more than his patience when the duo must survive the extreme weather, treacherous terrain, and strange inhabitants of a lost world - as well as each other.
Russell from 'UP' The Video Game Russell
Russell is an enthusiastic and persistent 8-year-old Junior Wilderness Explorer. Armed with a backpack laden with gear, he is ready for the wilderness. The problem is that he's never actually left the city. All his knowledge of the outdoors comes from books, and his sole camping experience was in his own living room. He's just one "Assisting the Elderly" badge shy of achieving his lifetime goal: Senior Wilderness Explorer. When he targets Carl Fredricksen as the elder he will assist, Russell ends up as an unwitting stowaway on Carl's porch when the house takes flight and finds himself on the true outdoor adventure he's been dreaming about.
Kevin from 'UP' The Video Game Kevin
Named "Kevin" by Russell, this extremely rare, 13-foot-tall flightless bird is hidden from the world in its remote Paradise Falls habitat. Kevin is exceptionally fast and nimble despite its size. In fact, the massive bird often gets into some very curious and seemingly impossible positions. Very few know that this scientifically valuable creature exists, but Carl and Russell stumble upon the bird, which Russell names Kevin after he discovers they share a sweet tooth. Kevin and Russell bond instantly, and despite the bird's propensity to swallow Carl's walker, Kevin joins the jungle's most unlikely pack, along with Carl, Russell and Dug.
Dug from 'UP' The Video Game Dug
Dug is a lovable golden mutt living in the wilds of Paradise Falls as part of the dog pack searching for the rare, flightless bird. Like the rest of his pack, Dug is outfitted with a remarkable high-tech collar that translates his thoughts into speech. But Dug is mocked as the nerd of the pack. Sent into the jungle on a "special" mission, Dug accidentally succeeds when he discovers the bird following Carl and Russell. As they're pursued through the jungle by his own pack, the sweet, but simple-minded Dug must decide to which pack he actually belongs.

Game Modes
Up the Video Game features loads of game modes that ensure that players' Amazonian adventure keeps going and going. Just a few of these include: the Anaconda and Crocodile Boss fights, as well as the 2-4 player Dog Fight mode.

I bought this game without having any high expectations for it, and we have been pleasantly surprised. For kids, this is good family fare and it's easy enough for even newer gamers to play (think play dates here, where sometimes the guest-child hasn't played but wants to try). True, it won't take 6 months to get through the whole thing, but there is a lot of value I think in having some games that are challenging yet relaxing and fun as well.

I like the fact that the kids have to "think" as they go through the screens, since there are various puzzles and projects that have to be completed so they can advance. You could blow through the game by doing just the minimum required, but my kids enjoyed really exploring the areas to make sure they hadn't missed anything before they completed the level.

NOTE: the very first level screen is an aerial dogfight where you have to shoot down 4 enemy planes to advance. The controls are "flight-simulator-style" (toggle up on the controller moves the plane down, etc.) and my kids had difficulty mastering the movement required to get the plane flying right so they could shoot down the enemies. They were starting to get a little frustrated so they called in a more experienced pilot (DAD!) to finish that one screen so they could go on. Once they moved onto the next screen they were off!

I bought this game to play with my 4-year old, and it is a perfect first game for kids. The game play is not too difficult, and the multi-player mode makes it so that we can work together through the whole game. We recently bought a few other games, and all she wanted to do was play the mini games, since this was the only way more than one person could play. During the story mode of the other games she would just get frustrated and have me do the tricky parts for her.

I ordered this for my 5 year old sister, who's always been curious of what XBOX games are about. She can handle getting around, but doesnt quite get the idea of the game or the goals of the levels. Nice simple maps and simple "enemies" make it perfect though for anyone as long as they're old enough to understand how to use the controller.

I bought this game used. It was a great buy. My boy and I played it for over an hour the first time. It is his first game that uses a controller for Xbox 360. He figured the controls out pretty fast. It is a bit repetitive, but it is a nicely set up game. The graphics are good, soundtrack is awesome, good voice acting with funny sayings, and of course you get to play as Dug. Pick this up for Christmas. My boy is 4 and he loves it. It is also a welcome game of innocence. Too many gross games out there. Glad that there are a few clean ones for children left. My lady and I played it for about 3 hours the first night after "lil man" went to bed. Fun times together. Only thing is the bosses can be a little harder than expected.

From the mindset of a quick 1000G Xbox 360 game this is one of the easier ones out there. The collectibles aren't too bad, the achievements are well balanced, and there is nothing that is truly challenging making it a good option for boosting. On the other hand, for a video game to enjoy this is lacking. Sometimes I wish games would not be made off of rather successful movies for the sole purpose of making some quick money, but alas they are and this is one of them. Unless you are a huge fan of 'Up' or you really enjoy childish games I would stay clear from this title as its repetitiveness comes fast and hurts the aura of the movie.

This Game Is GREAT! The Graphics are detailed, bright & vivid. You can at Anytime change characters. I like playing Doug the talking Dog. It Never Gets Boring. It keeps you Interested & going on.. The movie is Great & so is the game. I say it Does the movie justice. Multi player is a great deal of fun. My friend & I are playing together. We are Certainly enjoying this game. The same actors in the movie do the voices in the game. Makes a Nice touch. They use the same music as in the movie. Nice. I give this game 5 stars. Bravo Pixar. You did it again..

This is a great game for some parent-child activity. Co-op play is single, full screen. The characters all have different abilities, so it makes the players work together to accomplish goals.

As one reviewer stated, the first level is oddly different from the rest, and too difficult for young children.

I ordered this game as a used item. I received it in good time and the disc was in decent shape. The game played well which is all that is important in this sort of purchase. The game itself is a delight, fun for the whole family and is reminiscent of the movie complete with the same voice actors.
