Book Description

Up Your Score June 1, 2000
The strategy guide with attitude, Up Your Score is the only test-preparation book written for students by students. Smart, savvy, and serious-but funny, too-Up Your Score proves itself as the guide that tackles the SAT in terms of students will immediately relate to.br>For the 2001-2002 edition, the book has been revised and updated by Joe Jewell, a new guest editor with a perfect 1600 under his belt. Presenting solid, practical information in a voice that's hip and knowing, the book covers 600 key vocabulary words, teaches important insider math tricks, shows how to improve memory and concentration, and demonstrates how test-taking is itself a skill, including how to think like the SAT and why it's always better to guess than leave a question unanswered. And there are the side issues-what to do if you have a nasty proctor and how best to fill in the answer circles and save nearly six minutes. With Joe Jewell's updated cultural references and his own special strategy tips, here is the latest on everything kids need to psyche out-and not be psyched out by-the Test.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not another dry, boring SAT book!, October 18, 2001

I teach an SAT Prep course, and I recently was thrilled when I found this book. It is totally in tune with a teenager's sense of humor. I was even laughing out loud in some instances! Even better, it is an excellent preparation tool that identifies tried and true techniques. They have updated this edition so that the jokes are new and fresh, and the writers are completely down-to-earth. They truly seem to recall what it is like to be an eleventh grader who is extremely anxious about taking this test. Additionally, it's not too long and cumbersome that it will scare away students who truly wish to up their scores; I read the book in one evening. (I wish I had read it when I was in high school!!!) It's a necessity for any college-bound high school student!

Very nice book! This book is a very concentrated book which takes strategies from all the current SAT/PSAT courses out there and binds it into one book! Very very nice for any student who wants to master the SAT! I personally raised my score 140 points after I read this book. I have have taken Kaplan, Princeton and Score Prep and this has all their strategies and more. What I loved about this book was the fact people not that much older than me wrote it and could relate to me. Very funny boook. I laughed my way to a 140 points and anybody else can do the absolute same.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny & Helpful, October 21, 2001

There's one thing that separates this book from all the other SAT books -- it's written BY students FOR students. That, and you actually WANT to keep reading it. There's nothing dry and boring about this book. It's funny, it's helpful, and I give it more credit for helping me raise my Verbal & Math scores than any of the other books that I bought. I believe that the only books you really need to prepare for the SAT I are "Up Your Score" for insight on the test, tips on how to master the different types of problems, and a no-fail vocabulary builder, and "10 Real SAT's" for the practice tests. I've recommended "Up Your Score" to all my friends-- it's the only SAT book I've read that was fun to read & helpful at the same time.
