Tne Best Self-Help SAT Prep Yet,
By
This review is from: Up Your Score: The Underground Guide to the SAT, 2007-2008 Edition (Paperback)
I have been giving a copy of this book to my students with the top midterm and final grades in all of my Biology classes for years. Every year the book gets better, and several of the past students have commented on how they are certain that it contributed to their higher subsequent test scores. How they can pack all of the tips and essentials of the SAT with humor and readability into this small comprehensive work is a testament to both their skill and an obvious understanding of their intended audience.

I read this book during my senior year of high school. Before I read it, I scored 670 math/670 verbal on my first attempt. After reading Up Your Score and working through some practice tests, my score went up to 760 math/750 verbal. This is the best prep money can buy.

When I took the SAT years ago, this was my favorite study book. Probably because it was the only SAT book I could sit through. It's a fun read, full of humor and personality. A very useful and very well-written book. More than just a collection of practice tests and vocab words. Its now my sister's turn to prepare for the SAT and this is the book I'm getting for her.

A lot of what plays into successful test-taking is attitude. This book builds confidence and shows ways to approach a difficult exam in a positive way. It is a very interesting read, and emphasizes the importance of preparation to success.
If you are looking for practice exams, however, this is not your book.

This book keeps you turning pages, its fun and entertaining, while learning strategies to tackle the SAT. This book gets you pumped up and motivates you. Although for some people who are not as strong in math might not find the math section coherent because it does not explain it thoroughly. Other than that its recommended great and ideal for building your vocabulary.

This is a very good book. It is funny and smart. It shows you how to beat the SAT without freaking yourself out.
To me, the book covers the materials just right wihout going overemphasizing certain topics. Even though the book doesn't have practice tests, it is filled with good strategies. It even shows you how to concentrate for the SAT, which I think is really important, since you're going to sit in the same place for more than 3 hours.

Best SAT Review Book Ever Written,
By
This review is from: Up Your Score: The Underground Guide to the SAT, 2007-2008 Edition (Paperback)
This is the most engaging and entertaining SAT review book that I have ever seen. It is a bit irreverant and written in a tongue in cheek style which is exactly what would capture a teenager's attention. "Up Your Score" was recommended by a learning center for my teenage son, and we had so much fun reviewing the vocabulary that even four years later he still remembers the hilarious examples. I'd say the book did its job.

I read this book even though I didn't have to take the SATs,
This review is from: Up Your Score: The Underground Guide to the SAT, 2007-2008 Edition (Paperback)
This book was so entertaining and actually fun to read that I have gone back and re-read it in my free time. The advice they give is uncommonly good and I continue to utilize skills from this book in my junior year of college. It's also a great read because the authors detail the sorts of bewildering, obtuse questions that are in the test (and tests like it) year after year. The sorts of questions that totally stump anyone who doesn't already know the trick to solving it. It made answering such rather unfair questions a snap. I ended up only having to take the ACT, but the advice in this book is priceless for any test-taker.

When studying for the SATs, I read this book, and this book alone, and got a 1500 (back when it was out of 1600). Forget Kaplan, forget Princeton Review, this book will teach you all the tricks you need to know, and keep you interested while doing it.

Best SAT book,
By PhillyGirl "Kool Aid" (Philly, Pa USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Up Your Score: The Underground Guide to the SAT, 2007-2008 Edition (Paperback)
I took the SAT's the first time 2 years ago when I was a junior and I was to take it again fall of my senior year so I planned to spend summer studying. I took classes at Sylvan learning center (great!) and had Princeton Review's SAT book and book of practice tests, flashcards, and Kaplan's book. I could not find a way to focus for too long with any of those, so I went on Google to search for an SAT book that maybe had some jokes or was a bit entertaining and I ran across this book.
The book teaches you but still takes breaks in between to do have a little cartoon or tell a joke. It is great! They also give really great tips. For the first time I actually found studying for SAT's fun. Also the jokes and everything are a great way to help you remember things. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who is studying for the SAT's! With the SAT classes and this book, my score increased 200 points. also they have a free thing for you ipod so you can listen to vocab words in a song or something like that. |
