Hilarious But Not Helpful,

This review is from: Up Your Score: The Underground Guide to the SAT 2009-2010 Edition (Paperback)
Up Your Score is an amazingly fun book to read about the SAT. With that being said, it will barely prepare you for the SAT. Yes, it may make the SAT bearable with funny passages and pop culture references, but beyond that, the book holds no prowess. The only useful think about this book is the Vocabulary Section. The sentences are full of puns so they make the words easier to remember. However, this book has NO practice problems or tests. I would not recommend buying this book solely if you're serious about prepping for the SAT. Although, I do recommend it as a fun read when you're stressed about the ETS/SAT.

This is the most amazing book for the SAT i've seen so far after simply glancing over the writing section a couple of days before I received a 630 on the sat writing section. After my first sat i really read it through and noticed just how amazing it is. It's a great read, keeps you entertained, and has amazing tips. I can't wait to take the sat test this saturday and impale the evil testing serpent. Pair this book with the college board book and you'll be on your way to success.

Though I haven't read this 09-10 version, I've read the 05-06 version and it was amazing! The book is so funny- honestly, no one will want to stop reading! It has a "teenager attitude"- it goes along with the fact that yes, the SAT sucks, and yes, everyone hates it, that kind of thing. It kicks butt- I love it! I would recommend it to everyone! =]

I used the 1999 version of this book back when I took the SAT test. I suppose I should be reviewing that version, but I am going to review this one instead so people who are considering buying it know what a valuable tool it is. A combination of my shoddy high school and my lack of effort made me ill prepared for the SAT. I spent about two months using this guide and did much better than most of my peers. This is just from going over the vocabulary and English portion. I didn't even read the math portion. If I had done so, I probably would have done even better. The book is entertaining and contained some very useful strategies for memorizing boring things. I recommend this book to anyone who is thinking about taking the SAT test.

I bought this small book for my niece and took a look at it. It seems very easy to read, practical, down-to-earth and humorous. It has useful examples of the most difficult types of problems, for instance, in math. A welcome change from some of the other, more stuffy, voluminous and boring study guides. I think this book will hold her attention and help her as she prepares for the SAT.

This book has great tips and strategies for improving your score on the SAT. It's written in a good way, too, which makes it easy and fun to read. Plus, there was a coupon code inside the book that allows you to download vocab words to your mp3 or iPod for free. I would recommend this book highly!

This book is simply great!! It has all important vocab and saving time techniques. In addition, it has a lot of information to offer and a lot of preparation also. Simply its great but still you need The Official SAT Study Guide because this is book is just a help for techniques and strategies to save time, guess and helps you in memorizing the book

Okay the layout is good but kinda skims over everything doesnt go too much into detail and for someone that has been out of school for a while I need it to go into a little more detail. Maybe good if you are fresh out of school.

I first heard about this book from my oldest daughter when she was in high school. It helped her to increase her SAT scores and qualify for a some additional financial aid. Since then I have convinced each of my other children, five children in all, to read this book with and eye on increasing their scores. Each have been able to show an improvement after reading the various editions.
With the importance of standardized test results in the college admissions process and financial aid awards, being able to pay such a small price to get any degree of improvement is a welcome addition to any SAT preparation plan. For my kids it was a nice addition to the higher cost programs that we used and I think the results for the dollars spent were substantially greater. Another book that was helpful for high school students is from the College Board - CLEP Official Study Guide 2010. This book addresses the topic of getting college credit for introductory classes by taking exams at a very reasonable costs versus attending college classes. Similar to the advanced placement (AP) program in high schools. |
