Jordan's Review of FIF,

I can give you two reasons to run out and buy this CD: A Flowery Song and Milestone. The latter has one of the most incredible guitar solo intros I've ever, along with brilliant lyrics that were crafted by the genius that is lead singer and cheif song writer, Reese Roper. A Flowery Song is a straight-forward worship with rad guitar and even better lyrics. Old West deals with the issue of radical Christians killing in the name of the Jesus and Anthem is a great anti-Patriotic song. The themes range from racism to Diffirent Strokes to praise to how America has gone down the drain. Five Iron Frenzy is one of the second-most versatile band around (the first being the brilliant Jimmy Eat Wolrd) and they have styles for all music lovers. I highly reccommend this CD along with their live CD.

FIF is for me!,

I love this cd! FIF sounds like "Reel Big Fish" and "Mighty Mighty Bosstones," only better. The Old West, Anthem, Shut Up, and Combat Chuck are the best songs. I love the sound of Reese's voice, and the brass is excellent! You must buy this cd!

Very Good,

This was my first FIF cd. It is great and has a strong message if you understand the lyrics. Good Punk-Ska, and great tunes. I gave it 5 stars because it was my first FIF cd and because I like the tunes and lyrics. All in all, if you are new to FIF get this one. For this I think is one of their greatest cd's. So if you like this band check out Smiley Kids, and Sick Of Change. Check out my other reviews

Five Iron Frenzy probably could have made this an EP, and it may have been their most succesful CD. If I were to hand pick the songs for an EP it would be Flowery Song, When The Zero Meets Fifteen, Arnold Will And Mr Drummond, The Wild West, and Track #'S 11 and 12. Besides those 6 songs there is not much here, but those 6 songs are all great. So it is really an awesome value for a Five Iron Frenzy CD. As always FIF has the usual blazing guitars, loud horns, tight drums, sweet bass lines, and you can't beat Reese on vocals. And as usual Five Iron throws in some great humor as well.

A little inconsistent, but a lot of fun to listen to,

This album contains a good portion of Five Iron Frenzy's best songs, including their consensus best song, "A Flowery Song." There are some tracks I find a bit annoying, boring, or repetitive in the middle of the album, but the beginning and the end make it worthwhile. A lot of the songs won't be the type to be your favorite song, but they're enjoyable to listen to. Not just that, but unlike a lot of ska, Five Iron Frenzy songs often make you want to sing along. The lyrics are actually a bit heavy with political and social commentary, but that's easy enough to ignore if you want to.
If you're looking for some poppy ska, buy this album, and you won't regret it, if only because you'll hear "A Flowery Song."

FIF's first album is a classic, it introduced them to the world, and the world saw it was good. You can tell it is an older CD, some of the mixing isn't that great, the vocal at times get buried under the music. The songs themselves are all great, they are upbeat and exciting, just like FIF is in person. If you haven't yet, go see them in concert, it's well worth it, plus they are breaking up a the end of 2003, and you'll miss your chance if you don't se them soon.

There are many groups out there that started slow (newsboys, d.c. talk, etc.) and then really turned it on, but these guys were great from the start! From the catchy tunes of "Old West" and "Milestone, to the more thought-provoking songs like "Anthem" and "Beautiful America", this cd hits hard, and never slows down. With the inclusion of a little bit of humor (track #6) and an old Amy Grant song (plus some lyrics from other songs, such as "Third World Think Tank") this album is absolutely incredible. And when it all comes down to it, Five Iron didn't forget the most important ingrediant: the inclusion of our God and Father. I usually buy albums by groups like Jars of Clay (my personal fav.) and Switchfoot, but this is definitly the best ska album I own, even though it's a little old. I highly recomend it!

A CD that's easy to get into- fun ska tunes,

This CD is awesome. If you like ska, or even if you don't, this Cd is for you. Out of 15 songs, there are only a couple I don't love. Playing FIF always puts me in a good mood because the music is so, i hate to use the same word, upbeat. It's definitely worth the money- I've listened to it nonstop since I got it. The guitar stuff is great, and the songs have good messages. A must for any music collection!

My wife actually put me onto FIF - and she hates punk and ska! I love ska and punk and told my wife one day that I wished I could find a Christian ska band and she found FIF for me (this was a few years ago). I thought OK, cool, but let's see if they're any good. Yup, they're one of the best. I get a kick out of the sarcasm in "The Old West" and "Beautiful America." The quote from Westside Story - priceless. "A Flowery Song" has to be the most creative arraingment of the Doxology that I've ever heard (I'm almost tempted to give this disc 5 stars for "A Flowery Song" alone). A bit of advice - get this disc now and listen to it over and over - you'll have trouble finding anything much better.SDG |
