5.0 out of 5 stars Great Thermometer
This is a great thermometer. I was worried when I ordered it that it wasn't going to be exactly what I wanted, seeing as the picture is a bit hard to look at for me. It's perfect, though. I won't have any trouble knowing the temperature on my milk when I froth it now. :)

I am using this thermometer in my 20 oz frothing pitcher. The dial is large enough and the optimal frothing temperature range (140 - 160 deg F) is marked in red, so I don't need my reading glasses during frothing. I am using this thermometer in my 20 oz frothing pitcher. The dial is large enough and the optimal frothing temperature range (140 - 160 deg F) is marked in red, so I don't need my reading glasses during frothing. When snapped onto the rim of the pitcher, the sensing metal rod crosses the pitcher volume at an angle and reaches almost to the bottom, so it works well even with small milk volumes. One gripe though: because the large dial partially fills the opening of the pitcher and the sensing rod crosses the volume in the middle, it does not leave much room to maneuver the frothing spout of my espresso machine. It should be possible to have the dial rotated at 90 degrees (i.e. parallel to the rod instead at 90 deg to it) and the snap-on fixture built so that the sensing metal rod goes straight down along the pitcher wall (without touching it). This would leave most of the volume free to move the frothing spout around.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sticks at 160 degrees, February 12, 2012

I purchased this thermometer for cheese making. The large dial is very easy to read and the stainless steel stem and clip are great. However, my particular thermometer would stick at 160 degress and sometimes "bounce" rather than reading true. I was only able to return the item for a refund, not exchange so I can't say if they all stick or just this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars Worked well until it stopped working :(, January 7, 2012

This lasted me about 4 months of daily use - when I first got it, it worked as well as one can expect from a thermometer, but it has recently stopped working. The spring/coil looks like it has come loose as the red dial no longer sits at 40 degrees, it swings all over the place. Will be replacing with another brand!

The thermometer did not work. but the company refunded my money.
It would not read the temperature of the milk I was steaming.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for making the perfect latte, September 10, 2011

This review is from: Update International THFR-17 5 1/2"-Long Dial Frothing Thermometer
After using this for a few days I now realise I was always making my lattes too cold. I thought for a while I was scalding the milk so when the pitcher became hot to touch I stopped. I now realise that I wasn't getting the milk hot enough.

Lattes now taste better and are hot! Can't beat the price either, this was a great addition to my coffee tools!

My only complaint might be the way it sits in the frothing pitcher as it sometimes gets in the way of the frothing wand. I've found this is not that inconvenient though and generally pretty easy to work around.

I bought this thermometer for the large dial and temperature range of 30-220 degrees fahrenheit. This way I can check temperature of the milk and other liquids in the fridge as well as hot liquids up to 220 degrees. It's a thermometer, it's accurate, has a metal clip, and it's inexpensive. That's all I needed, and I got it with this thermometer. Shipping was quick from d&s office supply. Also, the product I received is exactly as the picture shows, big dial and all. You can really see exactly where the needle is for accurate reading of Temps. Good to go.

I purchased this thermometer about 2 weeks ago and I could not be happier. It has a big easy to read dial also highlights the preferred frothing temperatures with colors for ease of use. It also fits great on my 20oz pitcher that I got. Overall you can't go wrong with this for the price.

EDIT: 6 months and it still works flawlessly! no rust no temp difference
