This is an update on advances in lung cancer. The book examines advances in the treatment and prevention of lung cancer, looking at developments in chemotherapeutic drugs and drug combinations, which have resulted in clinically meaningful improvements in survival of patients with nonsmall cell lung carcinoma. The four chapters devoted to reviewing these drugs look at paclitaxel, docetaxel, vinorelbine, gemcitabine and topoisomerase inhibitors. Advances in the management of locally advanced nonsmall cell lung cancer are considered, including combined-modality treatments using chemotherapy, surgery and radiation therapy, and the results of trials involving chemoprevention agents are also reported. Finally, progress in understanding the molecular biology of this disease and how it might impact on the clinical management of lung cancer patients is discussed.
