4.0 out of 5 stars The Upholsters's Dictionary, January 3, 2001
By
This review is from: The Upholsterer's Pocket Reference Book: Materials, Measurements, Calculations (Paperback)
As an Upholsterer's Dictionary it is a good book and rather thorough. There are endless detailed sketches of the equipment Upholsterers use,a glossary of common terms ,information about exhibitions and Fairs etc. However,it isn't a "how-to" book. There are no step-by-step projects or photographs. This is a very technical book,a guide to wanna-be upholsterers rather than a guide to anyone who simply wants to experience the joys of a home-made redo.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hands down, the most comprehensive source of info on upholstery, August 22, 2011
By
This review is from: The Upholsterer's Pocket Reference Book: Materials, Measurements, Calculations (Paperback)
I was enjoying this book and then, suddenly, it appeared I had lost it. The loss was dismaying, because this is hands down the most comprehensive source that I have found for info about upholstery furniture. It is packed with illustrations and technical terms and explanations of materials, techniques, styles, etc.

I had assumed the book was called something like the Upholsterer's "Encyclopedia," and thus I could not find it on Amazon after loosing the book. I'm delighted to have found it again this evening, after two years, in the middle of the bottom row of my book shelf.

I'm not saying this book alone is sufficient to teach you upholstery, but it is the most valuable for me because it offers principles that are broadly applicable, as opposed to a few illustrated projects. This book offers readers the potential to design and create fine upholstered furniture.
