4.0 out of 5 stars More cumulative record of a genius, March 19, 2007
This review is from: Upon Further Reflection (Paperback)

For many B.F. Skinner is the devil incarnate. For others he ranks alongside Copernicus and Darwin. The three most influential people to have been born in the West. Like Copernicus and Darwin, Skinner will have to wait a few centuries before he is recognised.

Skinner denied the label of genius, stating that he is no different to other mortals but just happened to be in the right place at the right time and it wasn't even his chosen career.

Unlike his many predecessors, Skinner did not leave a great treatise. He left a few pieces of equipment that enabled him to see the world so clearly. The goose that laid the golden eggs. In his writing Skinner left a number of essays. Essays that ponder on the meaning of it all. The earlier essays were brought together in a single book 'Cumulative Record'. 'Upon Further Reflection', continues that tradition. All too regretfully they were some of his final reflections.

Those with 'closed' 'minds' will already have dismissed this book. Those who are not so prejudiced will find the gems of knowledge and wisdom that open doors to understanding life.

'Upon Further Reflection' brings together 14 essays attending to the origins of behaviour, global issues, the current state of psychology and self management.

This is one of the best B. F. Skinner's books! I really recommend! In it, Skinner discusses philosophical issues and does analysis of contemporary world, always focusing on the behaviour! It is a very very good book! I recommend it!

2.0 out of 5 stars This anthology contains a sequel to Walden Two!, February 3, 1999

This review is from: Upon Further Reflection (Paperback)
Few people seem to be aware that B.F. Skinner Wrote a sequel to Walden Two. It's called, "News From Nowhere, 1984," and it's in this anthology. It tells how George Orwell fakes his death and then lives out the rest of his days at Walden Two with Frasier, Burris, the pie lady and crew. Notable in this story is that Skinner (via Frasier) explicitly identifies his ideology as anarchist. I'm sure Chomsky would disagree (not to mention Zerzan.)
