Great Flight, Great Read, July 13, 2006
This review is from: Upon Silver Wings: Global Adventure in a Small Plane (Paperback)
As an ATP/CFI/retired Naval Flight Officer with 8,000 hours, let me say that this is one of the best flying books I have read. The author captures all the feelings of anyone embarking upon such a daunting adventure. Ms. Garratt followed routes in one small, single-engine plane what we did in a four-engine, 135,000 pound Navy P-3 -- an amazing feat. Her descriptions of the flight and the places and people she met come to life.
That the book is dedicated to Ms. Garratt's mother and that all proceeds go to fighting ALS (which ended her mother's life) make the book all the more worthwhile. The book is liberally filled with pictures and diagrams, further enhancing the read. I highly recommend this book.
