4.0 out of 5 stars You're gonna love this!, July 13, 1998
By
This review is from: The Uppity Blues Women (Audio CD)
If you've never heard the Uppity Blues Women, you're in for a real treat. Their witty lyrics and no-nonsense musical talent make listening to them a delight. This was the first CD of theirs I heard, and I was hooked! Women, especially, will like their sassy, "Bitch with a bad attitude" style. Lyrically, they're up there with Bare Naked Ladies (or the other way around!). Highly recommended for all blues lovers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Deb's Review, January 12, 2001

I heard "The Middle Aged Blues Boogie" on the radio and proceeded to my local music store...boy was I in for a surprise! If your new to the Blues then these women are for you! Sassy, Brassy, and full bodied attitude fill the lyrics with subjects you can identify with or just plain enjoy. Singing along and even playing along is fun. If you are the average mom and wife like me, then putting this on and crankin' it up really loud helps to make the household chores fun! Enjoy!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Saffire - Where it all Began, November 5, 2007

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Uppity Blues Women (Audio CD)
This is the first Saffire album. I "discovered" the group in 1996, just before going to Bosnia, Croatia, Hungary, Germany, Italy, and elsewhere. Throughout my travels, I had the music of Saffire with me everywhere.

Saffire is a wonderful blues group. Many, if not most, of the songs have been written by Gaye Adegbalola. Like any good blues, they range from incisive social commentary to just plain fun. Listen to the words, and not just to the music. These women are terrific!

A must for any blues fan, and particularly for women who love the blues.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Uppity Blues Women Are Real, February 20, 2006
This review is from: The Uppity Blues Women (Audio CD)
This is legitimate blues music. The flavor and nuance is of course pro woman, but with a realistic and accepting bent. They find humor in the ironic life of women, while still extolling a womans right to her own thoughts, actions and performance of her own music. Any blues fan, or any fan of the right to self thought and determination, will positively enjoy, and maybe "chair dance" along with, this music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uppity women unite!, December 16, 1999

First, it's great blues. Second, it's great that it's women singing/playing the blues. Third it's great for "middle-aged" women; women breaking up/divorcing and feeling their oats; married women tired of the daily grind... OK you're getting the picture.
