Biography

Life has its share of ups and downs and no one knows that better than Saves The Day frontman Chris Conley. For the past seventeen years Conley has been bearing his soul and reinventing his musical identity with each successive step, a process that is clearly culminating with Saves The Days seventh full-length Daybreak. The third part of a trilogy that also includes 2006’s Sound The Alarm and… Read more in Amazon's Saves the Day Store

Editorial Reviews

Starting out in the mid 1990's in Princeton, NJ - Saves The Day rocked the Jersey punk scene. So what is so special about this new album? The band has come up with 19 tracks dating back from when they were teenagers up to a live track from a recent tour. You can hear the clear progression from the tracks that were demo'd in Chris Conley's basement til;l present day. All 19 tracks are extremely rare if not unreleased.

5.0 out of 5 stars AN ABSOLUTE MUST!!!!!, September 11, 2004
This review is from: Ups & Downs: Early Recordings & B-Sides (Audio CD)
I saw no real good reviews so i thought that i would try one. Wow. I don't know where to start with this. It is incredibly amazing, from start to finish. One of the best things about it is that it has liner notes inside and Chris describes when and where he wrote the songs. It has awesome pictures from when they were younger.

Ups & Downs: 10/10 This song is really awesome. It reminds me of the times when they made Stay What You Are, because that's where this is from. The guitar goes sooo well with the drums and the lyrics and vocals are amazing.
Sell My Old Clothes, I'm Off To Heaven: 10/10 What can i say, this song is an absolute classic. They play it live alot at shows and this one, you can tell Chris is really young. The lyrics are soooo good like, "I know blue eyes get boring
But I'll wear dark glasses all the time And hey if you want me to I'll take a knife to My own bright eyes." OR "There's a beautiful sky tonight And if you were by my side then we could share this but you are gone.." Yes I just really want you all to buy this and support them!
A Drag In D-Flat: 10/10 Wonderful wonderful song. The guitar is soooo beautiful in here and everything compliments very well. Lyrics like "I am not afriad of what it takes to glue you to my side even if it takes a little bleeding, so be it. I would go without breathing and I don't have to justify it. you just watch me. ive got time to kill" leave you in awe. The double vocals in the end are what makes the song i-n-c-r-e-d-i-b-l-e.
Then they have the four songs from "I'm Sorry I'm Leaving". I love those songs but i usually skip them/10 The lyrics are awesome. The guitar is very good. It is so catchy. I love it.
The Art of Misplacing FireArms: 10/10 All i have to say is "friends don't mean a thing when you can actually feel the knife sticking in your spine.."
Dave Feels Right: 10/10 The end is the best part. Beautiful.
When it isn't like it should Be: 13/10 I LOVE THIS SONG. You just have to hear it. He sings with such emotion in this song. Lyrics are very very very well done.
Clash City Rocker: 11/10 This song is super catchy. Guitar is so good in here. The end is awesome.

I also love Cheer and the Jessie & My Whetstone live is soo good too.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but hardly essential., August 26, 2004
This review is from: Ups & Downs: Early Recordings & B-Sides (Audio CD)
I can't say I'm all that disappointed in this album, just not particularly excited by it.

I love a Drag in D Flat, track 3... and really all 3 songs recorded in 2000, as they sound sort of in-between Through Being Cool and Stay What you are, which are my favorite two albums by Saves the Day. Track 1 is excellent and sounds right off of Stay What you Are.

Of course, all the tracks from the acoustic EP are very good, but... I already own that cd. In fact I'm not sure why they're considered rarities, as thats an easily obtained album. Ugh. I guess I was really hoping for more stuff that was harder to track down. The live track is nice, and if it was recorded at the show in Asbury Park NJ that kicked off the TBS/Saves the Day fall tour then I was at that show, which is pretty cool... but then again, I heard that track twice on that tour. Oh well. If you're a big fan of the band, this is a nice little cd to add to the collection, but its certainly not essential in any way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Saves The Day's "Ups and Downs" Definitely Up, October 11, 2005

This review is from: Ups & Downs: Early Recordings & B-Sides (Audio CD)
I am 38 years old and I have been a fan of Saves The Day for some time. Their newest release titled "Ups and Downs" is actually a release of older material, some of which was not previously released. In a word it is GREAT. The tracks on this cd show how good these guys can be if they stay true to their music and stop trying to be all things to all people. Saves The Day gives a phenominal live performance and the last track on the cd proves that. This is a cd that any fan of Saves The Day should have. I only hope their future work will be worthy of that endorsement.
