AN ABSOLUTE MUST!!!!!,
By LetMeSaveYourDay "What." (Atlanta, Georgia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ups & Downs: Early Recordings & B-Sides (Audio CD)
I saw no real good reviews so i thought that i would try one. Wow. I don't know where to start with this. It is incredibly amazing, from start to finish. One of the best things about it is that it has liner notes inside and Chris describes when and where he wrote the songs. It has awesome pictures from when they were younger.
Ups & Downs: 10/10 This song is really awesome. It reminds me of the times when they made Stay What You Are, because that's where this is from. The guitar goes sooo well with the drums and the lyrics and vocals are amazing. Sell My Old Clothes, I'm Off To Heaven: 10/10 What can i say, this song is an absolute classic. They play it live alot at shows and this one, you can tell Chris is really young. The lyrics are soooo good like, "I know blue eyes get boring But I'll wear dark glasses all the time And hey if you want me to I'll take a knife to My own bright eyes." OR "There's a beautiful sky tonight And if you were by my side then we could share this but you are gone.." Yes I just really want you all to buy this and support them! A Drag In D-Flat: 10/10 Wonderful wonderful song. The guitar is soooo beautiful in here and everything compliments very well. Lyrics like "I am not afriad of what it takes to glue you to my side even if it takes a little bleeding, so be it. I would go without breathing and I don't have to justify it. you just watch me. ive got time to kill" leave you in awe. The double vocals in the end are what makes the song i-n-c-r-e-d-i-b-l-e. Then they have the four songs from "I'm Sorry I'm Leaving". I love those songs but i usually skip them/10 The lyrics are awesome. The guitar is very good. It is so catchy. I love it. The Art of Misplacing FireArms: 10/10 All i have to say is "friends don't mean a thing when you can actually feel the knife sticking in your spine.." Dave Feels Right: 10/10 The end is the best part. Beautiful. When it isn't like it should Be: 13/10 I LOVE THIS SONG. You just have to hear it. He sings with such emotion in this song. Lyrics are very very very well done. Clash City Rocker: 11/10 This song is super catchy. Guitar is so good in here. The end is awesome. I also love Cheer and the Jessie & My Whetstone live is soo good too. STOP READING BUY THIS NOW!!!!

Good, but hardly essential.,

I can't say I'm all that disappointed in this album, just not particularly excited by it.
I love a Drag in D Flat, track 3... and really all 3 songs recorded in 2000, as they sound sort of in-between Through Being Cool and Stay What you are, which are my favorite two albums by Saves the Day. Track 1 is excellent and sounds right off of Stay What you Are. Of course, all the tracks from the acoustic EP are very good, but... I already own that cd. In fact I'm not sure why they're considered rarities, as thats an easily obtained album. Ugh. I guess I was really hoping for more stuff that was harder to track down. The live track is nice, and if it was recorded at the show in Asbury Park NJ that kicked off the TBS/Saves the Day fall tour then I was at that show, which is pretty cool... but then again, I heard that track twice on that tour. Oh well. If you're a big fan of the band, this is a nice little cd to add to the collection, but its certainly not essential in any way.

Saves The Day's "Ups and Downs" Definitely Up,

I am 38 years old and I have been a fan of Saves The Day for some time. Their newest release titled "Ups and Downs" is actually a release of older material, some of which was not previously released. In a word it is GREAT. The tracks on this cd show how good these guys can be if they stay true to their music and stop trying to be all things to all people. Saves The Day gives a phenominal live performance and the last track on the cd proves that. This is a cd that any fan of Saves The Day should have. I only hope their future work will be worthy of that endorsement.

A Little Short, but a Must for Saves The Day fans,

When I got this CD, I expected it to feature much more than included. Most of the material is already accessable on various compalations and even their CD I'm Sorry I'm Leaving. This did include a few gems in the bunch however, like the opener "Ups and Downs" which is worth the CD alone for me. I also enjoyed the Sefler (which is very very early Saves the Day) songs like "when it isn't the way it should be" and "East Coast" on there.

Saves the Day is a band of many different aspects- those of "emo", "punk" and just beats that make you want to dance all over the place. With this new B-sides record, they're letting us back into what they truly sound like. These early recordings are great pieces to bring us back to their amazing and truthful sound. I've seen them live so many times, that it was just about time they put those unreleased tracks to work.
GO BUY IT YES!

WHY NO IN REVERIE B-SIDES??,
By Jeff Dale "SAM" (Los Angeles, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Ups & Downs: Early Recordings & B-Sides (Audio CD)
Sure this cd is a good nestalgic item for your Saves The Day collection, but you would figure that it being called "Early Recordings and B-sides", would mean that it would contain all the b-sides available, right? But I recall that there were 3 b-sides off of the In Reverie release which arnt featured on this cd. If anything, I dont think that the 5 acoustic songs off of the Leaving EP, should have been on this cd. They were atleast released on a CD while the only way to hear the In Reverie B-sides is from downloading them.
I know its not much to not like the cd over, but I was really dissapointed considering they actually went and released a B-sides cd... makes sense right???

I think because i knew it was coming out relatively early, i got my hopes up. Saves the Day is my favorite band, and i was so excited about them releasing something new. I didn't quite understand why basically the whole entire ep "I'm sorry i'm leaving" was on this cd, but i still like the cd none the less. I liked that a good amount of it was acoustic, but some fast too, because you can listen to it regardless of your mood. I was a bit dissapointed, because i was thinking more unreleased stuff would be put on it, but i love it none the less.
Stay cute, and have a nice day.

Saves The Day Rules The World,

After their last cd I was a little dissapointed in Saves The Day. When I herd that they were coming out with this one I new it was going to be great. I already herd about half the songs on this cd but I still couldn't wait. I have been a fan of Saves The Day for about 3 years now. Since that time I have herd everything by them. They are one of the best bands out right now. If you ever liked anything by them then you'll like this cd, a lot. It has everything from acoustic to fast punk. Buy it now, along with Stay What You Are and Through Being Cool
