4.0 out of 5 stars
good collection of early tracks, September 21, 2000
This review is from: Upsetter & Beat (Audio CD)
This cd offers the listener a nice insight to Lee Perry's late 60's and early 70's rocksteady works with the Upsetters. While his famed production techniques are not as noticeable of his early sides, Perry was still recognized as an innovative producer, as well as a pretty good vocalist, as well.
The tracks themselves are pretty straightforward (imagine saying THAT word in context with Perry) examples of rocksteady, though his eccentric nature does show on a few of the vocal tracks(listen to "Coming In From the Cold"), foreshadowing things to come.
A nice cd for those who are interested in rocksteady or for Perry completists.
